A south Indian roof bracket from a haveli mansion or temple in the form of a large arching Makara sea monster with lines of beading down the body, collar with twist pattern and scrolling open plant above; from the plant neck of Makara curving round to collar with bead decoration, mouth open with rows of teeth and ends of mouth bending round to form plants; to the top of the head an open lotus flower with bird looking back; rows of flowers down the side of the bracket with large open flower to the base. 7.15 kg, 87cm (34 1/4"). Property of a Canadian lady; acquired 1970s-1990s. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
