A George III mahogany bachelor's chest of drawers, circa 1780, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, 76cm high, 79.5cm wide, 41cm deep The use of laminated stacked blocks of timber behind the bracket feet on this piece is technique used by Thomas Chippendale and features on case furniture supplied by him for Nostell Priory, Yorkshire. A red wash has been applied to the chest, which is a feature of many documented pieces by Chippendale. Although Chippendale was not the only cabinet maker to use these refinements, their presence suggest that this chest was the work of one of the foremost English cabinetmakers of the period, likely in the St. Paul's Church Yard area of London. Provenance: Private Collection, The Manor House, Stanford in the Vale, OxfordshireCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasion commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some small old veneer repairs. Section of moulding to one side of the top appears to have been re-glued to secure. Handles appear original. The nuts securing them vary from one another. Locks are replaced and vary from one another. There are some sections of replacement veneer to tops of drawers adjacent to lock plates. Lozenge of replacement veneer surrounding one escutcheon. A George III mahogany chest on chest, circa 1780, the dentil moulded cornice above two short and three long graduated drawers, flanked by fluted angles, the lower section with three long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet, 178cm high, 111cm wide, 59cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasion commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. some minor old losses. Handles and locks are original. Key is present to operate locks. . feet, drawer linings and rear panels all original. Some old signs of wood worm to a minor extent. The old damage/ holes seems mainly only to affect the roof , rear panels and underside of the chest. No obvious significant signs of old worm in other areas. Good colour and patina overall. Some minor fading in areas. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. A pair of Venetian parcel giltwood and green painted lanterns, 18th century and later adapted as wall sconces, possibly previously gondola or pole lanterns, each tapered body with scrollwork and fircone finials, approximately 100cm high, 46cm wideCondition Report: As catalogued, bracket arms and wall cartouches appear to be later additions.The painted surface and gilding are quite worn with some flaking and losses particularly to the exposed edges, finials and mouldings. The paint has some cracking, flaking and mottling in the recessed panels.Various old vertical splits to the panels, one or two of which appear to have been repaired.One of the doors doesn't sit entirely flush in its frame and appears to be a little looser than the other.Minor evidence of old worm activity, though no longer appears to be active. Some mounts loose. Loss to one ormolu mount at the back of the surmount. Pendulum present and an associated key. Movement appears in need of attention and the clock does not tick when wound. Alteration and repair throughout. The top is desperate to fall forward when the door is opened, suggesting that the mirrored door is itself associated. Knocks, wear and scratches.
An ebonised and ormolu mounted bracket clock, late 19th century, by Payne and Co., no. 1940, the silvered arching dial with a subsidiary strike silent dial, inscribed with black Roman numerals, the movement striking the hours on a bell, signed to the back and dial, the case decorated with turned finials, term figures and floral swags,22cm wide21cm deep40cm highCondition report: Dial with light marks to the silvering, ormolu slightly pitted and dirty in places, finials slightly bent, ebonised case with light wear complete with key and pendulum and seems to go and chime but no guarantee as to timekeeping. Dial diameter approx. 10cm. The silvered face 15 x 10cm.

One supporting anthemion bracket missing. Both appear to be lacking chains as there are eyelets surrounding the lion masks. Some marks, scratches and misshapen areas. General wear, tarnish and discolouration. The urn on the torchere locking the supporting bracket wobbles a little. Some slight wobble in the joints but generally solid and of heavy gauge.
