A Very Rare German Burgonet In Oriental FashionCirca 1560, Probably NurembergOf russet steel, with conical skull made in one piece and encircled by a band of fluting etched in 'Moresque' style with repeated interlaced strapwork and scrollwork, the slightly recessed rim (old patched repair to the left of the rivetted replacement peak) decorated en suite and pierced with holes for the missing cheek-pieces and neck-plates, the lower edge pierced at a later date with numerous small holes for an aventail (missing), drawn-out at the top to a bud-shaped finial and etched with triangular panels en suite with the rim above a border of ropework, the etched decoration overall retaining traces of original gilding, the Safavid bar-nasal faced in silver engraved with the Nadi 'Aliyyan prayer and 'Aid is from God and an imminent victory' in nast-ta'liq, the latter inscription on the large plummet-shaped finial and all within borders of ropework (the silver over the bar-nasal bracket incomplete), and retaining two later brass cheek-piece suspension links 26.5 cm. highFootnotes:For a related burgonet in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. 04.3.216) and formerly in the Duc de Dino Collection, see Stuart W. A Very Rare German (Augsburg) 10-Bore Combined Matchlock And Wheel-Lock Gun In Fine ConditionCirca 1580With blued two-stage sighted barrel slightly swelling at the turned muzzle, long octagonal breech deeply struck with two shield-shaped barrelsmith's marks of Thomas Berger of Augsburg (Neue Støckel 4565 and 4959) behind the back-sight with single aperture folding leaf-sight, the top of the breech, mid-section and muzzle chiselled in bas-relief with parcel-gilt acanthus, lightly engraved tang with sighting groove extending along the top of the breech, flat lock with gilt line border, external wheel with gilt retaining bracket pierced and engraved with a pair of foliate monsters and retained by two screws, hinged match-holder en suite and with ring-headed screw for adjusting the match, chiselled details on the springs, bridles and sprung sliding pan-cover, and blued cock cut with pairs of diagonal lines on the jaws, ebonised full stock inlaid with white staghorn or bone panels engraved with blackened fruiting scrolls along both sides of the full stock and with two monsters opposite the lock, club-shaped butt with a winged monster on both sides of the fluted comb, panels of scrolled foliage around the barrel tang and trigger, and with a grotesque lion-mask forming a side-nail plate, all within line borders of white staghorn or bone, etched and gilt iron mounts comprising stepped trigger-guard with bell-shaped terminal and decorated with strapwork against a ground of scrolls, and two ramrod-pipes each with foliage against a dotted ground, gilt trigger, fore-end cap engraved with overlapping foliage, horn-tipped ramrod, and retaining much of its original blued and gilt finish 103.5 cm. barrel Footnotes:For other examples of combined matchlock and wheel-lock longarms see Hans Schedelmann, Die Grossen Büchsenmacher..., 1972, p. 27, no. 47; and Howard L. A late Victorian Irish brass and coromandel two-decanter miniature tantalus, Betcheman's patent brass bracket with canted handle, securing two cut glass cylindrical decanters with faceted stoppers, within a coromandel carriage, applied with a brass plaque inscribed W.Mansfield, Dublin, 18cm wide x 19cm high (no key).Generally good with only minor/typical signs of age and use. No key and so full inspection of glass decanters not possible.

Chips, dents and scratches consistent with age and use, including chipped edges of stiles and rails and scratched top of base. Frame pulling-away from stiles slightly. Some drawers ok but some dovetailed corners need re-gluing.
A George III mahogany rectangular chest of drawers, with an ovolo moulded edged top above two short and three long graduated, cock-beaded drawers, with brass swan-neck handles, raised on bracket feet, restorations, some damage, 110cm wide x 52cm deep x 106cm high Overall – nice colour and figuring and condition ok, save some restorations, including patches on the left side of the top (12cm x 3cm and 4cm x 4cm) and 4cm on the top stile and 4.5cm x 2cm on the left side of the top rail. Some damage including lacking 4cm of vertical cock-bead on one short drawer and the whole vertical section of the other.
An early Victorian mahogany bow-front chest of drawers, the plain top above two short and two long cock-beaded drawers, having turned wood handles, raised on splayed supports, 87cm wide x 48.5cm deep x 87cm high.Overall - good colour and figuring and in good condition. Some minor sensitive and unobtrusive restoration, including:- 3.5 x 2cm patch front left corner of top, 10 x 1cm (tapering to 0.25cm) on right front stile next to middle drawer and two patches on the left stile at the base, 5cm and 6cm (each tapering from 1cm to a point) and two on the front right bracket foot (3 x 3cm and 4 x 0.5cm). 3cm triangle on back left of top and 4cm back right re-stuck.Minor damage including 4cm crack on the front right of the top and 1.5 x 0.5cm section of veneer lacking on left side edge of top. Minor chips dents and scratches, including sides (a dull colour), back edge of top and edges of stiles and rails.
