19THC BRACKET CLOCK - RAILWAY INTEREST, HIGHLAND RAILWAY a late 19thc bracket clock, presented to David Jones of the Highland Railway in 1896. An ebonised bracket clock with a 5 1/2" silvered chapter ring, beneath a subsidiery fast/slow dial. With pierced spandrels on a brass 8 day twin train movement, striking half hourly and on two gongs. With gilt metal mounts and paw feet. With a an inscribed brass plaque, 'Presented to David Jones Esq Locomotive Engineer, by the Employees of the Locomotive Carriage Wagon Departments, Highland Railway, 31st October 1896. 17ins (43cms) high *David Jones (1834-1906) was born in Manchester where his father was an engineer. He became Locomotive Superintendent for the Highland Railway in Scotland, and was credited with the design of the first British 4-6-0, an arrangement that had it's origins in the United States. 15 of the Jones Goods Class Locomotives were built, and one survived and is now housed at the Riverside Museum In Glasgow. He retired in 1896 after a scalding experienced during tests, which robbed him of use of his left leg. This clock was obviously given to him on his retirement by the employees, as a mark of respect for his time served with them.
A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, the plain single frieze top with a moulded edge over three short and three long drawers to bracket feet CONDITION REPORTS 121.5 cm wide x 103.5 cm tall. Various dark marks to the top, various scratches, scuffs, marks etc throughout. Chips to the edges, all over various general signs of wear and tear through age and use throughout. Some drawer fronts with losses of moulding in various locations.
A Regency mahogany and inlaid bow front chest of drawers, the plain top above four long graduated drawers with brass ring handles raised on bracket feet CONDITION REPORTS The top is not flat, has split and various heavy scratches, stains and other marks. One handle is missing, Losses to the carcass veneer etc. especially to the edges to the edges. Spilts to the sides, repair to the front right hand foot. Scratches, discolouration fading etc. through out. Replacement handles and locks. Drawers don't sit flush. General wear and tear conducive to age and use. 106 cm x 55cm x 97cm
A walnut double pedestal desk, the tooled and gilded leather insert writing surface within a moulded edge above three frieze drawers raised on two banks of three drawers to bracket feet CONDITION REPORTS Approx 80.5 cm deep x 151.5 cm wide x 75 cm high. General wear and tear all over to include scuffs to the leather and wear to the gilding, chips, knocks, etc all over. Appears to have been re-varnished. Wear to the outside edges. Splits to the sides - both inside and out. Losses, etc. Large crack to the base of the right pedestal. There have been repairs and there are patches of filling. General wear and tear thoughout - see images for further details. There is evidence of tape to the exterior.
