A late 17th century French bracket clock by André Charles Boulle, the boulle work ebonised case of architectural form, the pendant with ormolu mounts, the glazed door flanked by a pair of columns and enclosing the brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and twin winding holes 'held' by an ormolu figural relief modelled as Atlas, over a shaped apron, on bun feet the back plate of the brass movement with a visible wheel inscribed 'Torrez Ast. Malo', 48x33 cm CONDITION REPORT: Requires attention. Finials not screwing in correctly. Some losses to boulle work, ebony and mounts. Some veneers missing, One foot replacement. Another foot attached to a piece of timber which is loose on the base. One hand damaged. We believe the bronze figure has been altered and his foot removed.
A French Boulle bracket clock the cast gilt brass dial with blue and white enamel Roman chapters, the movement with outside count wheel bell strike, signed Festeau Lejeune, Paris, the case with cherub finial over further gilt metal mounts and plain scroll feet, together with bracket, clock 82cm high
A Georgian black lacquered bracket clock, the backplate signed "George Priors, London", two-train fusee striking on a gong, the dial with Roman numerals. Case height excluding carrying handle 43 cm, width 29 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains. It strikes when advanced. With the pendulum removed the going train is ticking away. The case is in generally good condition. All brasswork would appear to be original. It is all a little tarnished but there are no significant problems. The case itself has some minor stress fractures. There are however no significant losses. There is a crack to the veneers just above the left hand front foot. There are minor stress fractures to both sides. The numerals are a little rubbed and there are minor scratches to the dial but no significant issues. The wooden fretwork behind the door which is not on display has some losses. We have the pendulum and door key but no winding key.
A George III mahogany bracket clock by John Upjohn, marked "London" to the dial and "Upjohn, Exeter" to the backplate, two-train fusee with alarm. Height excluding carrying handle 44 cm, width 29 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock has an anchor escapement, the movement winds on both trains. It is ticking away as it should. The movement does strike when advanced. We are not sure if the alarm mechanism is operating as we are not sure how this works. Both the repeat and alarm cords are perished and whilst operating require replacing. The case is in generally good condition and of good colour. All brass work would appear to be original. The top of the clock case is in very good order. The front has several old minor veneer repairs. The right hand side of the case has an old repair to the mahogany either side of the arched grille. The brass fretwork is in good order. The silkwork fabric has probably been replaced. The overall condition of the movement and clock case would appear to be very good, the only question mark being the operation of the alarm mechanism.
A late 19th century French red tortoiseshell bracket clock, with two-train striking movement by Marti et Cie. Height 37 cm, width 17 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains. It strikes as it should when manually advanced. All metalwork is tarnished but all present and correct. The tortoiseshell is in generally very good order with only minor discolouration and blemishes. The glass is dirty but has no cracks. There are minor chips to the numerals 4 and 8 around the winding apertures but no significant losses. The rear door fits as it should. We have a key and pendulum.
A coromandel veneered bracket clock case, early 19th century, architectural form, with round dial aperture above the moulded base raised on bun feet. Height 43.5 cm, width 30 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The interior diameter of the bezel is 19.2 cm. The height from the current seatboard to the very top of the case is 27.5 cm. The interior diameter of the aperture is 20.7 cm. The effective height for a movement is probably no more than 22 or 23 cm.
A carved walnut bracket clock, late 19th century, with foliate and scale carved pediment above the rectangular brass dial embellished with fruits and vines, with silvered chapter ring beneath a regulating dial, eight day movement chiming on two gongs, lion mask oak leaf and acorn pilasters above a gadrooned foot and plinth base. Height 41.5 cm, width 29.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement is Lenzkirsh. The movement winds on both trains it is however dirty. The movement does strike when manually advanced and is ticking but only for a short period. We have the pendulum and a winding key. The case is structurally in very good condition with no losses to the carving or fretwork. The only real issue is that the two side grills are both missing. The face is in generally good order with only minor tarnishing to the silvering.
A George III oak dresser with Delft rack, with moulded cornice above three shelves, with panelled back and flanked by flat pilasters with sledge feet, the base with moulded edge above a series of drawers and panelled cupboard doors, the drawers with brass drop handles with shaped backplates and flanked by fluted quarter column corners, with moulding below and raised on bracket feet. Width 183 cm (see illustration).
A George III mahogany and walnut longcase clock, probably Whitehaven, bearing old label for Michael King Looking Glass Maker, Carver & Gilder to The Door, with swans neck pediment and Verre Eglomise panels above the arched door enclosing the enamelled dial with moon phase and eight day striking movement, with long trunk door and all raised on bracket feet. Height including finial 229 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Whilst the clock is ticking away and striking as it should neither the moon face or the date hand are currently connected and there are pieces missing here. The dial is badly rubbed and much of the gilding not present. The Arabic numerals around the Roman numerals are not visible neither are the date markers. The case itself is in generally good structural condition. There is considerable wear to the verre eglomise. The hood should have rear flat uprights at the rear of the sides of the case, these are missing. The trunk door is not warped. The sides of the case are in generally good order as is the blind fretwork and the base. There are no significant issues with the case other than the missing sections at the rear of the hood and very minor losses of the edge cornice.
A George III mahogany chest on chest, with key moulded pediment above a series of oak lined graduated drawers and all raised on bracket feet. Width 110 cm, height 172 cm, width 56.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The handles and escutcheons do appear to be original to the piece, there are no other handle holes visible. There is a small polished indent mark where the handle drops onto the drawer.
A late 19th century mahogany breakfront bookcase, in two sections, the top half with detachable moulded cornice and blind fretwork frieze above four glazed doors with wooden astragals, the base fitted with cupboards and all raised on bracket feet. Height 219 cm, width 163 cm, depth 49 cm (see illustration).
An 18th century walnut veneered bureau, with slope front to fitted interior, with four frieze drawers with brass drop handles and lock escutcheons, with moulding below and raised on bracket feet. Width 91 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top has small patches of what I would believe to be watermarks and a small ring stain and partial ring stains. The fall front has four patches surrounding the escutcheon. There is a further patch to the extreme right edge of the fall front. There is a 3 cm patch of veneer replaced to the right hand side of the fall front and a 4 cm detach of veneer missing from the top right hand corner side. There is a 4.5 cm repaired patch directly above the escutcheon on the carcass and a 1 cm square patch to the left hand side top right of the sloping carcass. There are numerous splits and veneer losses to the right hand side. The left hand side has veneers lifting and blistering and has age cracks. There is a 7 cm x 16 cm patch of veneer missing from the rear leg and moulding. There is a small patch of veneer missing from the outside left front bracket foot there is a 6 cm x 1 cm patch of veneer missing from the outside rear bracket foot. The outside right bracket foot has veneer lifting. Both front bracket feet have been repaired. Each drawer has handle hole patches. The stringing on the top drawer looks to have been replaced. The bottom drawer looks to have some water damage. The bottom drawer baseboards are all warped and water damaged. The interior fall front has a recent tooled leather writing surface inset into it. Both hinges are later and are framed by old repairs. The interior centre cupboard door has had a repair to its right hand hinge and there are signs of old hinge marks to its right hand side. Overall in tired condition but salvageable.
