A very fine and rare white jade 'Guqin' joss-stick holder box and coverQianlong Expertly carved as a guqin with four harmonic markers visible, and seven strings in relief, leading to a cloth cover with pierced roundels and flowers to allow the smoke to rise, the interior of the box carved with an auspicious bat, and joss-stick holder on one end, the box raised slightly on four bracket feet, hongmu stand. 19.2cm (7 1/2in) long (3).Footnotes:清乾隆 白玉雕古琴型蓋盒Provenance: a Swiss private collection來源:瑞士私人收藏In the present lot, the carver has made a joss-stick holder box and cover with a purely literati subject-matter playing the guqin - a seven-stringed zither - is one of the four accomplishments of the scholar. The other three accomplishments being painting, weiqi, and calligraphy. Wrapped and ready for excursion, the carver has cleverly pierced small apertures into the cover imitating embroidered roundels of a cloth bag to allow the incense smoke to rise. Compare with a related pale green jade box and cover in the form of a guqin, 18th century, illustrated by R.Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, p.214, no.164. Unusual Post WW1 Converted M98 Bayonet Into a Log Splitter single edged, butcher bayonet with rounded point. Steel, turn up quillon. Steel pommel with locking stud removed. Wooden, grooved slab grips. The tip of the blade with hinged bracket secured to the scabbard with four V slots cut into it to hold the logs. Scabbard with transfer “Splitter D.R.P.a”

Together with three, white metal, Prussian buckle overlays. “Gott Mit Uns” and oak leaf circlet with central crown. 4 items.
THOROWGOOD OF LONDON; a good George III mahogany bracket clock, the brass swing loop handle above arched dial set with silvered chapter ring beneath a calendar ring with twin chain driven fusée movement striking on a bell with engraved back plate, fish scale brass side grills and raised on brass bracket feet, with key and pendulum, height 50cm.Additional InformationSold with a key which works both front and back case, also a winding key sold with a pendulum which is probably associated. The silk on the side grills is perished in parts. There is an unsightly screw to the side to both sides of the case holding the brackets supporting the movement, this may indicate the movement is associated to the case or has been altered in some way. The dial is slightly ill fitting to the recess. No guarantee of working order, there are few small knocks to the case, a tiny bit of moulding missing upper left corner, a couple of splits to the veneer.
