A late 19th-century mahogany longcase regulator by Batty & Sons, Manchester, the architectural case has canted corners to the hood and trunk, the rectangular glazed door shows of the zinc/steel temperature-compensated pendulum, the rectangular plinth stands on a single plinth, the 13.5-inch silvered regulator dial is signed on applied plates, the substantial movement has A-framed plates united by heavy screwed pillars and is fixed to a wooden seatboard with two large hand screws, the six-spoked wheels are screwed to their collets and mesh with high count pinions, the dead-beat escapement has adjustable jewelled pallet nibs that are held in a brass frame, the pendulum is suspended from a cast-iron bracket on the backboard and follows Thomas Buckney's (1838-1890) design, which incorporates steel and zinc tubes to compensate for the expansion and contraction of metal in hot and cold temperatures, the brass-cased weight has an integral pulley and is positioned so that it descends down the side of the case6ft 7in (201cm) high.
A late 19th-century arch-topped oak regulator by Lowe, Chester, the domed case has access doors to either side of the top and full glazed door over a square base with recessed panel and double ogee moulded plinth, the 12.5-inch signed silvered dial with silvered sight ring has the traditional regulator layout with outer minute circle and subsidiaries for the hours and seconds, and sits over a carved oak foliate apron, the large movement is supported by a stout cast iron bracket, has heavy plates united by six heavy screwed pillars, six-spoked wheels, fully jewelled dead-beat escapement and brass caps to all pivots, 210cm high

A SMALL CHINESE BRONZE WATER POT AND A BRONZE INCENSE STICK HOLDER 16TH/17TH CENTURY The square-section water pot with a chicken head-shaped spout and a loop handle inlaid with silver and copper wire with archaistic scrolling design, raised on four bracket feet, the vase with an ovoid body on a flared foot and a tall neck with two handles and a flared rim, all decorated with stylised lotus flowerheads and foliage, 11cm and 6.8cm, 138g and 201g. (2) Provenance: from the collection of Professor Peter H Plesch and Mrs Traudi Plesch OBE and thence by descent, collection no.Bv7 and Bv11, the water potpurchased from Spink & Son Ltd at the 1968 Antique Dealers Fair for £10, exhibited at the OCS exhibition in 1983, no.44.
A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE EGRET-MARKED KRAAK 'CRICKET' DISH WANLI 1573-1620 Finely painted with a cricket on a rock and with flower sprays, the moulded bracket-lobed rim with eight panels of various blossoms and cicadas, the reverse with eight panels of fruit and cicadas, the base with an egret mark and a circular label for Bluett & Sons, London, 19.7cm. Provenance: formerly the property of a titled English collector. Cf. Christie's New York, 16th March 2015, lot 3502, and Christie's Amsterdam, 20th May 2008, lot 9 for other egret-marked Kraak dishes. The egret mark appears exclusively on Wanli Kraak pieces of high quality, fine painting and moulded designs, was used at one particular kiln. There are only about 45 known examples recorded worldwide.

A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ENAMEL JARDINIERE 18TH CENTURY The quatrefoil-shaped body painted in coloured enamels and gilt with stylised lotus blossoms on a dark blue ground, with key fret borders around the rim and to the four bracket feet, the interior turquoise, together with a wood stand, 18.2cm. (2) Provenance: purchased from Gump's, San Francisco, 23rd November 1937 for $35, together with a letter from Gump's dated 1938 confirming the purchase.
8th-10th century AD. A bronze stirrup with ribbed footplate, arched body, square bracket with slot to accept the strap. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, grave 735. 248 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). From the family collection of a London gentleman; formed in the late 1940s-1950s; thence by descent. [No Reserve] Very fine condition.
