A fine George III mahogany musical automaton longcase clock by Samuel Smith of London, the eight day, six pillar three train movement with an anchor escapement and striking on a bell and playing six tunes from a 9.5cm pinned cylinder on a graduated set of eight bells, the arched brass dial with a silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, the matted centre signed 'Samuel Smith LONDON', with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with foliate cast spandrels and strike / silent and chime dials, the arch painted with a Georgian interior with figures playing instruments with a lady at a harpsichord, inscribed 'FAL LA LA, HOME SWEET HOME, MARCH IN ROB ROY, BLUE BELLS OF SCOTLAND, MARINERS HYMN, 104th PSALM', the hood with fluted pilasters and glass side panels, the case with outline mouldings on bracket feet, 230.2cm high. Case and movement possibly associated.
λ A large late 19th century French brass and tortoiseshell boulle marquetry mantel clock, the eight day movement with an outside countwheel striking on a gong, the backplate stamped '59487', the gilt brass dial with enamel Roman numerals, the case with a putto surmount and decorated with ormolu rococo style mounts, 76cm high, 38.3cm wide, 17cm deep, together with a matching bracket. An early George III mahogany serpentine dressing-commode attributed to William Gomm, the crossbanded top with a floret carved edge above four long graduated drawers fitted with original brass swan neck handles, the top drawer with a leatherette lined slide which part hinges above compartments and divisions, the right side with a drawer, flanked by leaf, flower and scroll carved angles on a sanded ground, the bracket feet and aprons carved with scrolling leaves and rocaille on brass castors, 82.5cm high, 117.5cm wide, 64cm deep. Provenance: The collection of John Shaffer Phipps (1874-1958), New York and thence by descent to the present owner. William Gomm established a cabinet making and upholstery workshop at Peterborough Court, in the parish of St. Bartholomew, Smithfield c.1725. By 1756 Richard William's son was working for the business and in 1763 the company was titled William Gomm & Son & Co. William Gomm is chiefly remembered for his association with Abraham Roentgen having given the famous German cabinet maker a work experience placement during his time in London in the 1730s. His major commission was to furnish Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire for the 5th Lord Leigh in 1763, where he worked with the decorators Bromwich & Leigh and produced at least six serpentine dressing commode tables similar to the above lot. A George III mahogany longcase clock by Thomas Read of Manchester, the eight day four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and striking on a bell, the painted enamel arched dial decorated with figures and four season spandrels, the centre with a shepherd and a young lady, with subsidiary seconds and date dials, signed 'Thos Read MANCHESTER', the arch with a moon phase, the hood with a broken swan neck pediment, the case inlaid with stringing and marquetry with urns of flowers, scrolling leaves and oval paterae with a lancet arch door on bracket feet, 242cm high.

Case and movement possibly associated.
A mid 18th century French silver oval pendant centred with the portrait miniature of a young woman within a cultured pearl and bead decorated border with marks for Julien Berthe, c1750-1756 suspended on a seed cultured pearl set removable upper bracket, reverse of case engraved with initials 'J.A.' overall length 6.8cm.
