Ballater - a pair of novelty Scottish provincial crusie oil lamps William Robb , marked ROBB / BALLATER (twice), formed in the antique style as a pair of miniature crusie oil lamps suspended from silver mounting bracket raised on a simple wooden plinth 6cm high (including stand) Notes: This unusual survival is not just remarkable for it`s size and fragility but because of it`s rarity. It is recorded in the Edinburgh Assay Office that 12 pairs of lamps were sent for assay in a single parcel and therefore it must be considered that this constitutes only six sets. One other set is known but is lacking the suspender and stand.
A Lucas black painted double-coil bulb horn with mounting bracket (lacking bulb), a further double-coil bulb horn (lacking bulb and bracket), a quantity of reeds, bulb horn fittings etc, a Wingard side-mounted mirror, a 1¼" Amal carburettor, a veteran inlet or exhaust valve in a boxwood case, a Kinsman tyre pump from a Rolls-Royce, pre-focus bulbs, etc.
A Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase, the top with blind fret carved frieze wood dentile cornice over two astragal glazed doors, the cross banded fall flap concealing a good fitted interior with multiple drawers and pigeon holes over two short and three graduated long drawers on bracket feet.
