A pair of George III silver salvers, by John Wakelin and Robert Garrard, London 1794, of oval form with gadroon borders resting on bracket feet, engraved with armorials, the reverses engraved No 5 13=7, and No 6 13=6, 23cm long, 27 oz approximately (2) The arms of Charles, first Marquis Cornwallis, KG (1738-1805). Joining the army at the age of 18 opened General Cornwallis`s distinguished military career. He briefly entered Parliament and served as Constable of the Tower of London. As major-general in the American War of Independence, he was second in command of British forces, yet forced to an ignominious capitulation by the inadequacy of his superior. In India, Cornwallis reformed the civil and military administration and dictated terms to Tippoo Sultan. His appointment as viceroy and commander-in-chief to crush an expected Irish rebellion prevented him taking up the post of governor-general of India in 1797. But in 1805, he was sent back to take command at Calcutta and died the same year at Ghazipore.
A Fine & Rare 18th Century Burr Yew Wood Commode of good colour & patination. The burr veneered top with cockbeaded border above a recessed concave front. The single plain drawer of tapered form flanked by two slanted slides covered in green baize and a concave tambour slide. The single drawer ornamented with two dummy drawers and fitted with urn-form escutcheons. The interior fitted with a circular stand to house a chamber pot. Raised on square feet with a bracket-form apron. 30 ins (76 cms) in height, 23½ ins (60 cms) in width, 18¼ ins (67 cms) in depth.
An Unusual 19th Century Mahogany Veneered Cabinet. The ogee moulded cornice above an ebonised frieze carved with scrolls of foliage. The four doors having cream silk panels; the top cupboard fitted with variously sized pigeon holes drawers veneered with ebony & boxwood strung panels. The lower cupboard having two frieze drawers carved with swags of fruit, corn & flowers and having a shelved interior. Raised on ebonised base with bracket feet. 79½ ins (202 cms) in height, 50 ins (127 cms) in width, 17 ins (43 cms) in depth.
A Fine 18th Century German Figured Walnut & Marquetry Serpentine Commode of small proportions. The top inlaid with chinoiserie figures and scrolling strap-work in a broad outer border edged in brass moulding. The three serpentine front drawers having cross-banded borders with Rococo scrolling ormolu escutcheons and foliated handles, standing on shaped bracket feet, 31½ ins (80 cms) high, 28 ins (71 cms) wide, 20 ins (51 cms) deep.
A 17th/18th Century Italian Walnut Chest of Drawers. The plain top above a dentil moulded frieze and four long drawers carved with strap-work flowering plants; divided by protruding imbricated leaf moulding. Raised on later bracket feet. 31½ ins (82.5 cms) in height, 32 ins (81 cms) in width, 19 ins (48 cms) in depth.
A Fabulous Quality Late 19th Century Edwards & Roberts Bookcase. The crested cornice having a pierced fret-work swan neck pediment above an inlaid band of faux-dentil moulding and a frieze of inlaid rosette roundels bordered in stringing. The three large glazed doors applied with astrigal mouldings of geometric design, enclosing height adjustable shelves. The lower cupboard doors enriched with marquetry panels; the middle panel centred by a group of musical instruments, compass & manuscript within an oval bordered by laurel branches and bell flower swags. The flanking panels having detailed marquetry pen-worked cornucopia of fruits flanking crossed sprays of wheat. Raised on four bracket feet. Stamped `Edwards & Roberts` with two labels to the reverse each stamped `Gretton` and in ink `48` relating to Lord and Lady Gretton estate (Stapleford Park, Leicestershire). 107 ins (272 cms) in height, 72 ins (184 cms) in width, 18 is (46 cms) in depth.

Each drawer having a moulded edge & feather banded borders.
