A late 18th century mahogany writing bureau; the cleated fall opening to reveal fitted interior with central cupboard door flanked by pigeon-holes and further varying sized smaller drawers etc., four full-width graduated drawers retainng probably original brass swan-neck handles, raised on bracket feet (100cm wide x 104cm high)Condition Report: The item has been taken back to the original wood and is not without fault. The top of the piece has a 3cm splice at the back and is quite badly marked with water marks etc. The fall has a prevalent split along the top left-hand side of approximately 15cms, opening the fall...the central cupboard door is away. There are new sections of wood to the front where the hinge is joined and there is also a large gap. Marks and scuffing to the fronts of the drawers. The left-hand side has a full length split down it there has been an attempt to fill, right-hand side equally so. The fall also has many knocks, bumps and indentations etc.

Lot 343

A late 18th century mahogany chest-on-chest; the dental cornice over an arrangement of various graduated drawers, raised on bracket feet (106cm wide x 53cm deep x 180cm high)Condition Report: The piece has been re-polished at some stage; looks as though it has been restored; quite a shiny finish to it; the drawers are oak lined with rounded top sides and the drawer bases run from front to back; the handles have been changed at some stage; the top drawer in the lower section is compartmentalised into three; generally the piece is good overall restored and re-polished condition. The drawers are a tad lighter in colour. The two top left hand drawers are slightly darker than the third drawer on the right. The other three full-width drawers below (top section) look fairly uniform, the lower section (top drawer) has a dark area around the escutcheon and around the right handle. The colour variation is slight overall in the Auctioneer's opinion.
