A good George III "Bewcastle" type inlaid oak press cupboard, in two stages, the upper stage with moulded cornice and plain frieze inlaid with nine star motifs above three crossbanded and elliptically strung rectangular panelled doors and one short drawer, the base having an arrangement of four false drawers, three medium and two long graduated drawers all with brass bale handles and raised above a shaped apron on bracket feet. Width 69 ins, depth 22 ins, height 84 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The image of the Bewcastle press and the dimensions in the printed catalogue are incorrect. The press that we are selling is of an almost identical design to the one illustrated and is of a similar colour but in our opinion in a little better condition. The correct dimensions are: width across the cornice 72 ins. The cornice is detachable and the width across the top of the cupboard is 67 ins. The height of the upper section of the cupboard excluding the cornice is 47.54 ins. Depth of cupboard at the cornice is 24 ins. The overall height of the piece is 84 ins. The condition is generally very good, the cornice is in good order, all of the moulding beneath the cornice is present but a little scuffed on the returns. The three doors are not warped and have their original handles which are stamped "Webb & Greenway, Registered 1462". The brass drop handles to all drawers appear to be original and all present. The cockbeading to the drawer fronts is principally complete with only very minor losses. The most evident loss is to the centre right middle drawer which has one section of the upright cockbeading missing. The sides of the piece are a little dirty and have some paint flecks, there are however no cracks and no damage. The bracket feet are original and in generally good condition. The interior of the cupboard is in generally good order. The piece only really needs a light clean.

Width 50 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The secretaire chest is in reasonable condition but does require some restoration. The top right hand corner of the cornice has some veneer damage. The upper doors do not quite meet in the centre. This could be rectified by slightly moving the brass edging strip. The doors are slightly but not significantly warped. The left hand return moulding has a small loss to the rear at the back. The right hand return moulding is also slightly damaged. The top of the base has several old scratches and slight water damage. The drawer fronts are all in generally good condition with only the top drawer having a minor loss to the cock beading in the top left hand corner. All handles are present, however the top right hand handle is missing its circular drop. The bracket feet are all scuffed and have veneer losses and both sides have old splits which are clearly visible.
A 19th century mahogany chest of drawers, with Jenners plaque to top drawer, in the George III style, with four long graduated drawers with brass drop handles and cockbeading to each drawer front, with shaped apron beneath and raised on splayed bracket feet. Width 29.25 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The top of this chest of drawers has been repolished at some point with a French type polish. Some of this is missing. There are also some scratches to the top. The colour underneath the polish is generally good and there are no significant issues with the top in terms of splits or cracks. The back of the piece is original. The sides both have stress fractures down the middle of each side running from top to bottom. These cracks are both slightly open by approximately 1/5 - 1 mm. The sides are however flat. The drawer fronts are well figured and in good order. There are no significant losses to the cockbeading. There are one or two minor sections of veneer missing which should be evident from our image. The shaped apron and bracket feet are original and in generally good condition. The handles are original.

Width 28 ins, height 94 ins, depth 19 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This piece is in good, untouched, original, unrestored condition. The giltwood pediment has a loss to the left hand side and to the top scroll. The cornice is in generally good order. The door is not warped. The mirror plate is beginning to perish. The lock is original and present. There is a section of beading missing to the left hand side of the door. This runs for approximately 12 ins from the bottom left hand corner up the side. This should be visible from our image. The base is in generally good order. The return moulding to the left of the bookcase top is detached but we have the piece. The same comments apply to the right hand side. The bureau flap is flat and not warped. The interior is fairly plain but all present. The handles and lock escutcheons to the drawer fronts appear original. The left and right hand lopers have old damage to the fronts. The top drawer is in good order as is the second and fourth drawers. The third drawer has a loss to the top left hand corner. The bracket feet are in good condition and appear to be original. The lot has been fully restored in recent years. The cornice is in good condition. All drawers run freely as they should. All drawers are oak lined. The handles are likely to be later replacements but there is very little evidence of this from the front of the piece except on the top three drawers. If you look very closely you can see small repairs covering small holes from a previous set of handles. All other handles and lock escutcheons show no evidence of replacement apart from at the rear where one old set of holes is visible. The handles are of the correct style and very much in keeping. The bracket feet are original and in generally good condition. The sides of the piece are in generally good order with evidence of old stress fractures but no significant issues. The secretaire drawer operates as it should.

The dial is also very clean and does not require any restoration.
