A Gordon Russell oak two-part cabinet and chest, design No. X113, the panelled cupboard with radiating panelling, opening to reveal two compartments each with a shelf, over four drawers, and raised on a bracket plinth, labelled to the underside of the top drawer, 'The Russell Workshops Broadway Worcs This piece of furniture design No. X113, was made throughout The Gordon Russell Workshops Broadway Worcestershire Designer: Gordon Russell Foreman: Edgar Turner Cabinet Maker: C Beadle Timber used: English brown oak Date 18.5.1929', 78.5cm wide 41cm deep 167.5cm highX113 was a special order and a unique commission, the purchaser being a Mrs Laws, according to records held at the Gordon Russell Museum, 'special orders' only started in 1929. Provenance: The Estate of Fiona MacCarthy (1940-2020). Condition report: Some knocks to the edges, water-staining to the lowest drawer and to the plinth. Some chips to the oak on the upper section on the corners. Panelled backs.
