AN HIGHLY UNUSUAL PRESENTATION QUALITY MAMELUKE HILTED DIRK MOUNTED WITH A YATAGHAN BLADE BY SALTER, 60cm characteristic Yatagahn blade profusely inlaid with calligraphy and scrolling geometric designs, reinforced white metal forte bracket, copper gilt hilt, the cross guard with beaded border and acanthus leaf decoration, chevron decorated back and fore-strap, two-piece riveted ivory grips, chips, contained in its gilt mounted leather scabbard, the chape and locket decorated to the fore in an organic Art Nouveau manner and in a similar, sparser fashion to the rear, the upper mount with a maker's panel, Salter Sword Cutler & Jeweller to H.R.H the Duke of Sussex 35 Strand LONDON. Salter operated at this address from 1801-1824. Blade Maker- Hassan HussinTawakaltu Ala Khaliky Abduho   (I depend on the one who created me, His slave -???- )  3amal Mahmoude 1330 (the work of Mahmoude) 1220 in Hijri date, making the blade date to 1799.
