Considered the most important Serbian political figure for 40 years, five times Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Serbia between 1891 and 1918, and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia 1918, 1921-24 and 1924-26. An important politician in the Balkans, who, together with his counterparts like Eleftherios Venizelos in Greece, managed to strengthen their small and still emerging national states. CASTRO FIDEL: (1926- ) Cuban Prime Minister 1959-76 and President 1976- 2008. D.S., Fidel Castro Ruz, one page, folio, Presidential Palace, Havana, 31st March 1959. The typed document, in Spanish, is issued in the name of the President of Cuba and relates to the creation of a new Act (Law No. 192) following the Minister of Public Works requesting an increase in the credit allowed in his budget to ensure full implementation of the Government's plans to intensify public works, the Act stating that the budget be increased by $6,000,000.00 at the rate of $2,000,000.00 per month from April 1959. Signed at the foot by Castro in his capacity as Prime Minister and countersigned by Manuel Urrutia Lleo and Rufo Lopez-Fresquet. Castro and Lopez-Fresquet have both signed their names across blind embossed seals and the document also bears an affixed blue blind embossed seal with the two original blue ribbons. Three file holes to the left edge and a few smaller holes and minor area of paper loss to the upper left corner, none of which affect the text or signatures. CHAVEZ HUGO: (1954-2013) President of Venezuela 1999-2013. T.L.S., `H.Rafael Chavez´, one page, folio, Fuerte Tavacare, 6th January, 1976, in Spanish. The typed document bears two “Secret” red ink stamps to the head and base of the letter. The military document issued by the ministry of defence, infantry command division, states that Chavez as officer of the Venezuelan army will handle and deal with material classified as secret. Chavez swears that he will respect and fulfil the law and the military rules. With few binder holes to the left edge and a staple to the upper edge, not affecting the text or signature. Folded, with a small hole to the fold. F £100-150

The typed document being Chavez´ personal report and investigation work entitled `The Army of yesterday, today and for ever´, under-titled `..Let´s move ahead, march, braves..´ Signed by Chavez in bold blue ink by Chavez in his capacity as Sub-tenant of the “Bravos de Apure” tank battalion, to the fifth and last page. Chavez states in part `History is no doubt the teacher of Human being… Venezuela, this piece of land under this piece of sky, land covered with blood, heaven full of heroes, has a grandiose history… Those men, barefoot, half naked, left their trace printed, deeply, in the South-American continent…´ Chavez further refers to Generalissimo Miranda, Jose Tomas Boves, Pedro Zaraza and repeatedly to the glorious Simon Bolivar as the pillars of the freedom of Venezuela and its citizens. The partially printed document, bearing at the heading a blind embossed eagle seal, is a presidential decree adopted by the Presidency of the Republic of Irak, stating that according to the article 56 of the constitution, they instruct former Lieutenant Colonel Rafaa Lattif Talqah to return to the military service as Colonel from the day of today. Signed in black ink by Saddam Hussein in his capacity as President of the Republic of Irak. Four small pinholes to the right border, none affecting the text or signature. About EX £500-600

ELIZABETH I OF RUSSIA: (1709-1762) Empress of Russia 1741-62. L.S., Elizabeth, in Cyrillic, one page, folio, Saint Petersburg, 24th January 1737, in Cyrillic. The manuscript document is a Decree to the Patrimonial Chancery, instructing that attention to Piotr Novikov´s horses has to be maintained and that the same money he was receiving when he was working for the chancery as salary has to be paid in future. Further also instructing that the sum of 150 roubles has to be paid annually to the notary Bogdanov, as well as 800 kilos of flour and oat every four months, first the flour at the beginning of each period and after, at the end of each period, the money. Very small minor age wear, otherwise VG £1000-1500

A fine L.S., `Ekaterina´, a fine and bold ink signature example, two pages, large folio, Tsarkoe Selo, 24th May 1784, to King Ferdinand of Naples and of the Two Sicilies, in Cyrillic. The Empress states in part `We want that the position of Our plenipotentiary Minister to Your Royal Court, post which is now occupied by Major General Count Andrey Razumovsky, to be occupied from now on by another person. For this reason We appoint Our current Chamberlain in court Count Pavel Skavronsky to this service and post of Minister to Your Court.´ Countersigned by Minister of Foreign Affairs Count Ivan Osterman. With blank integral leaf, bearing an attractive watermark. Extremely small creasing to the fold, otherwise about EX £2500-3500Andrey Razumovsky (1752-1836) Russian Diplomat. Tsar´s representative to Vienna, and a crucial negotiator during the congress of Vienna. Married to Count Nesselrode´s daughter.Pavel Skavronsky (1757-1793) Russian Count, Chamberlain of the Royal Court. A Patron of the Arts and Italianophile. Savronsky married Potemkin´s niece, Ekaterina Engelhard, a lady-in-waiting to the Empress and a woman often described as "of extreme beauty", or "The Venus of Palace" with whom half the Court, including the Empress´ sons were in love. It has been reported that Savronsky was spending all his time composing and singing, eccentric and obsessed with classical music and opera, he was obliging his servants to speak with him singing in "recitativo", and during festive lunches and receptions, all servants were organized in duets, quartets and choirs , imparting the atmosphere of an opera house.Ivan Osterman (1725-1811) Russian Statesman. ALEXANDER I: (1777-1825) Emperor of Russia 1801-25, the first Russian King of Poland 1815-25. Fine D.S., Alexander, in Cyrillic, one page, oblong folio, Saint Petersburg, 16th November 1802, to Counsellor Franz Labensky, in Cyrillic. The partially printed document being a title recognition given to Labensky stating `Let it be known to all that the Most Excellent and Great Sovereign, the Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias Pavel Petrovich of blessed memory, our dear father, conferred the title of Court Counsellor to Franz Labensky for his zeal and diligence on 4th December, 1798. Franz Labensky had served as Collegiate Assessor to his Majesty, but had not obtained commission until now. We order all our subjects to acknowledge and respect Franz Labensky according to his rank. We hope he will serve in this position as faithfully and diligently as a loyal subject should.´ With a large and attractive paper seal affixed to the bottom left corner, in very fine condition. Countersigned by State Chancellor Alexander Vorontsov. Folded to the centre. Some extremely light, very minor age wear, with left edge slightly irregularly cut, otherwise G £2000-3000Alexander Romanovich Vorontsov (1741-1805) Russian Count and Cancellor of Russian Empire under Alexander I. Vorontsov in permanent opposition to Nikita Panin always defended coalition with Austria and Great Britain, instead of with France and Prussia. He was a key figure in the rupture with Napoleon.

L.S., Nicolas, a good and bold signature example, three pages, folio, Saint Petersburg, 23rd March 1837, to His Majesty the King of Naples, in Cyrillic. The manuscript letter informs the King, 'Our Dear Brother and Friend.. after having accepted the petition received from our Privy Councillor, Chamberlain and Cavalier Count Adam Matushevits, who is residing now at the Court of Your Majesty as our Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Minister, we relieve him from his duty and Envoy..´. Countersigned at the foot by Karl Nesselrode. Accompanied by the original envelope wrapper bearing a large Imperial paper seal. Some extremely light, minor age wear, otherwise VG £1000-1500Ferdinand II (1810-1859) King of the Two Sicilies 1830-59. Karl Nesselrode (1780-1862) Russian Count and Diplomat. Foreign Affairs Minister 1816-56. Nesselrode served under Tsars Alexander I, Nicholas I and Alexander II.

The document being a decree to the Chapter of Russian Imperial Royal Orders, with the attestation of the Archpriest of Riga´s St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Ioann Diakonov, by the honour bestowed by the Most Holy Synod, and by which Baron Pahlen is awarded with the St. Anne Order of second degree. A bold signature example by the Emperor, with flourish. With a small tear and creasing to the upper edge, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG £1200-1500Fyodor Petrovich Pahlen (1780-1863) Russian Diplomat. Russian Ambassador to the United States 1811-15. General-Governor of Novorossiya.

ALEXANDER II: (1818-1881) Emperor of Russia 1855-81. Assassinated. An excellent L.S., Alexander, a good and bold signature example, two pages, folio, Saint Petersburg, 30th April 1855, “On the first year of our reign”, to King Ferdinand II, in Cyrillic. Alexander II as Emperor and Autocrat of all Russias congratulates his correspondent stating `We have received a letter from Your Majesty addressed to the Emperor Nicholas Pavlovich of blessed memory, our dear father, in which You inform that Your spouse gave birth to a Princess…´ Countersigned to the bottom of the second page, beneath the Tsar´s signature, by State Chancellor Nesselrode. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope, addressed to King Ferdinand II, with an extensive presentation in Cyrillic, and bearing a large paper seal affixed in very fine condition. EX £2500-3500Alexander II responds to a King Ferdinand II letter received, a letter which was sent to Emperor Nicholas I after the Italian Princess birth on 21st January, but in the meantime, in February 1855, Nicholas I passed away and Alexander II responds as heir and new Emperor of Russia, although his coronation would only take place few months later. Ferdinand II (1810-1859) King of the Two Sicilies 1830-59. He succeeded his father Francis I at the early age of twenty. Princess Maria Luisa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (1855-1874) Youngest daughter of King Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies and Maria Theresa of Austria. Princess Maria Luisa was known for her charity to the poor. The Princess died at the very early age of 19 shortly after her return from Egypt suffering high fever. Karl Nesselrode (1780-1862) Russian Count and Diplomat.

NICHOLAS II: (1868-1918) Emperor of Russia 1894-1917. Assassinated. A good D.S., Nicholas, in Cyrillic, two pages, folio, Livadia Palace, 13th November 1913, in Cyrillic. The partially printed document is addressed to [Ismael Montes] the President of the Republic of Bolivia and the Emperor acknowledges receipt of the President's letter announcing his election and the intention to maintain good relationships between the two countries, and Nicholas II reciprocates the President's intentions by sending assurances that he will contribute all he can to consolidate the good relations of friendship between Russia and Bolivia and concludes by offering his prayers that God will protect the President and keep him in good health. Countersigned by Sergey Sazonov (1860-1927) Russian Statesman, Foreign Minister of Russia 1910-16. Accompanied by an official French translation of the document. Some very small, minor file holes to the left edge of each document and both with small areas of paper loss to the lower left edge, only very slightly affecting one word of text and the conclusion of Sazonov's signature, otherwise VG, 2 £1500-2000Ismael Montes (1861-1933) Bolivian General and President of Bolivia 1904-09 & 1913-17.
