CHARLES KINGSLEY (1819-1875) A FOLIO OF CARIACTURE DRAWINGS, along with an envelope addressed to Mr Kingsley in Biarritz from Spain, two botanical pressings of seaweed, masonic interest rules, receipt, church letters and more.The caricatures have strong social-political symbolism. Charles Kingsley was anti-slavery, and wrote at lengths on the subject. One of the caricatures in this lot perhaps depicts an African American man, with the caption below 'the gentleman who has been discovered to be as good as a yankee'.

Barrie', London, Hodder & Stoughton [1912], ed. 278/600, signed in pencil by the publishers, printers and engravers, a large folio consisting of 12 mounted colour plates, the folio binding consisting of cream vellum and green cloth boards laced at spine, measuring 55 x 50cm, in publisher's original cardboard box, with later presentation case.

Blank paper.- An album of c.260 sheets, sheet size 350 x 237mm., some spotting or mostly light foxing, lower hinge broken, contemporary vellum, lacking ties, soiled, folio, [late 17th / early 18th century].⁂ The countermark is a fleur-de-lis over initials 'VA' or 'AV'. The watermark appears similar to the Arms of France and Navarre and is reminiscent of Churchill 305, 'Briquet / Les Filigranes' Vol I, 1854/1855, and Heawood 649/650. Provenance: An ink account entry for the year 1696 at end; ink inscription to upper cover dated 1772.

NO RESERVE Carte (Thomas) An History of the Life of James Duke of Ormonde, 2 vol., first edition, scattered faint spotting, bookplate, contemporary calf, neatly strengthened at joints, a little rubbed, slight bumping to corners and spine extremities, folio, by J. Bettenham, for J.J. and P. Knapton, 1736.⁂ A third volume of letters was published in 1735, but is lacking here, as is usual. Bookplate of Francis Thomas de Gray Cowper (1834-1905).

Society" and asking him to send correct drawings; and a brown watercolour wash astronomical diagram by Mr Ellis of Exeter, folio, n.d. (2).
