OCTAVIUS OAKLEY, RWS (1800-1867) STUDY OF A BEARDED MAN (POSSIBLY A SELF PORTRAIT?) Signed and date 1863, watercolour 27.5 x 19cm. Provenance: In January 1863, thirty one members of the Society of Painters in Water Colours presented a green leather brass-bound folio of their own works to Edwin Wilkins Field (1804-1871) upon his retirement as solicitor and administrator for the Society. Fellow donors included William Callow, Myles Birket Foster and Samuel Palmer. The accompanying card recorded their `sincere regard for him as a friend and also an acknowledgment of his earnest activity in furthering the general interests of the Society.` The whole collection was kept together until it was sold by a descendant of Field in the 1970s. ++ Good condition
