William James Boddy (British, 19th Century),' The Golden Gleam', watercolour, signed, framed, oval mounted and glazed. 21x16ins. *Son of an architect, W.J. Boddy (1832-1911) followed in the same profession, moving to York in 1853 as assistant to George Jones. A master draughtsman, Boddy exhibited in York and London from 1865-to 1879. A folio of his work was presented to the Prince of Wales in 1900.

Rules to be observed for the preparation of plans and sections for new lines, original printed wrappers, stained, Allahabad, 1st January, 1896 § Circular No. 210. Acquisition by the European Staff of a competent knowledge of the vernaculars, stitched, as issued, some dust-soiling, Calcutta, 1900; and 2 others, East Indian Railway, folio (4)⁂ Both unrecorded.
Italy.- Zuccagni-Orlandini (Attillio) Twenty-six folio plates from ''Atlante Geografico dell Italia', Italian views of cities, landscapes and buildings of interest, engravings on ivory wove paper, each sheet approx. 305 x 430 mm (12 x 16 7/8 in), some with blind-stamps, trimmed with small margins, some minor damp-stains and browning, all unframed, [circa 1860] (26).
Japan.- Kaempfer (Englebert) Histoire Naturelle, Civile et Ecclésiastique de l'Empire du Japon, 2 vol. in 1, first French edition, titles in red and black with engraved vignette, 42 engraved maps and plates only (of 45), most of which folding, some with off-setting line along fold, cracking to getter at rear but firm, some light foxing to text pages, endpapers renewed, hinges repaired, nineteenth century half calf, upper joint torn with back-strip coming loose, spine ends chipped, folio, The Hague, P. Gosse and J. Neaulme, 1729.⁂ With the rare second appendix to vol. 2, containing the account of an English vessel's voyage to Japan in 1673, translated here into French (final15pp. before index).

Scandinavia.- Sweden.- Thersner (Thora) Fordna och Närvarande Sverige: Utsigter af Westergöthland/Vues de Westrogothie, vignette title, lacking table of contents?, c.125 plates, most lithographed, some aquatints, text in Swedish and French, front free endpaper torn with majority lacking, original calf-backed boards, morocco label to upper cover with gilt lettering, rubbed, spine lacking, upper cover and first few pp. detached, lower joint split but cover holding, oblong folio, Stockholm, 1866.⁂ Records for this particular volume are scarce, but the original appears to have contained only 40 plates. The additional plates are presumably taken from other volumes in the Fordna och Närvarande Sverige series, began by Ulrik Thersner in 1817 and continued by his daughter Thora after his death.

Central Asia.- Turkey.- Farley (J. Lewis) The Resources of Turkey... Profitable Investment of Capital in the Ottoman Empire, first edition, light uniform browning throughout, a few instances of spotting and soiling, very small amount of worm holes, affecting text but no major loss, later cloth backed boards, detached, [Atabey 416], 1862; and an album on Pompei, 8vo and folio (2) ⁂ Recognised as an "authoritative source book on the economics of the Ottoman Empire" (Atabey, p.221), it includes statistics on production and populations, and reports from local consuls, covering among elsewhere Crete, Cyprus, Rhodes, the islands of the eastern Aegean, as well as Smyrna, Bursa, Trebizond, Samsoun, Salonica and Volos. Not in Blackmer.

[Panoramic view of Istanbul], ten-part albumen photograph dissected and mounted on the card album, folding concertina-style into cloth covers, some light spotting and browning, upper cover with title 'Costantinopoli/ 1907', spotting to covers, spine split, worn, oblong folio, [circa 1880-1910]. ⁂ Large-format panorama taken from the Galata Tower with a view across the Bosphorus to the Asian side, from Uskudar to the Topkapi Palace, overlooking the Golden Horn up to the west side of the city
Central Asia.- Turkey.- Amherst (W.A., Baron).- Spackman (Corporal R.) 59 Plates for Notes upon the Castle of Budrun (Halicarnassus) and its Association with the Knights of St.John of Jerusalem, no text, 60 lithographed illustrations by Spackman (numbered 1-58) on 57 leaves, printed on 14 large folding uncut sheets, and one loose plate of a document, lightly browned especially first plate (also with tiny tears to fore-edge repaired), loose in modern black morocco-backed cloth drop-back box with typed note mounted inside lid, spine titled and ruled in gilt, folio, Harrison & Sons, [c.1884].⁂ Very rare. According to the typed note, "The above article was announced to be issued with the Annual Report of the Order of St.John of Jerusalem for 1884 but it did not appear and a slip was inserted in that report:- Note. Mr. Amherst's paper on the Castle of Budrun, referred to in the Table of Contents will be issued to Members (separately) later.The article never appeared, but 300 sets of these plates were discovered in Messrs. Harrison's warehouse early in 1921 and removed to St.John's Gate.The plates are from drawings made by Corporal R.Spackman, R.E. (British Museum Add. MS.30,998) while he was on the staff of Dr.C.T.Newton when excavating Halicarnassus 1852-1859."The drawings are mostly of inscriptions.
