[um 1545]. - Koloriertes Exemplar des berühmten Kräuterbuchs - Erste niederländische Ausgabe - Vollständiges und guterhaltenes Exemplar. - 'Mit den neu geschnittenen Bildern des Kleinen Fuchs von hervorragender Schönheit' (Karl Eugen Heilmann) Da die Erstausgaben seines Kräuterbuchs von 1543 wegen des großen Formats und teuren Preises nur geringen Absatz fand, veranlaßte Fuchs den Drucker und Verleger Isengrin, die Stöcke in verkleinertem Maßstab nachschneiden zu lassen. Diese 'sehr sauber geschnittenen Illustrationen machen einen ganz vorzüglichen Eindruck' (Schreiber) und wurden in der niederländischen Übersetzung seines Kräuterbuches abgedruckt. Jahrhunderts - Mit altkolorierten, teils figürlich belebten Holzschnitten von David Kandel - Schönes Exemplar. - 'Ein wahres Volksbuch' (Heilmann) Erschien erstmals 1539 bei Wendelin Rihel in Straßburg, zunächst ohne Illustrationen. Wegen mangelndem Verkaufserfolg folgte 1546 eine erste illustrierte Ausgabe, die dann so erfolgreich war, daß innerhalb weniger Jahre weitere Auflagen folgten. Die vorliegende ist bereits die sechste Auflage mit den Illustrationen Kandels. Nach Haebler ist zu vermuten, daß der schöne Einband mit breiter figürlicher Rolle im Jahr der Drucklegung entstanden ist. Die Rolle (216 : 21 mm) zeigt Salvator, David, Paulus und Johannes sowie 4 Köpfe (siehe Haebler II, 149, 1565, 1). EINBAND: Blindgeprägter Schweinslederband d. Juni 1491. - Ratgeber für eine gesunde Lebensweise - Behandelt hauptsächlich Speisen und Getränke - Erste und einzige Inkunabelausgabe. - Behandelt neben Schlaf, Bewegung, Sex, Hygiene und Drogen vor allem die Ernährung, insbesondere die Qualitäten und Eigenschaften zahlreicher Lebensmittel, einschließlich ihrer Zubereitung. Obwohl es sich eher um ein populäres als um ein wissenschaftliches Werk handelt, stellt es eine Synthese aus wenig bekannten jüdischen und arabischen Lehren über Lebensmittel und allgemeineren westlichen Texten dar. Der Autor (1449-1528) war Medizinprofessor in Padua und ein Arzt, der in seinem Beruf beträchtlichen Ruhm und Reichtum erlangte. Nürnberg, Anton Koberger 1502. - Erste vollständige deutsche Ausgabe - Eines der einflußreichsten Werke der mittelalterlichen Visionsliteratur - Erstellt im Auftrag Kaiser Maximilians I. - Illustriert mit herausragenden Holzschnitten nach Entwürfen von Albrecht Dürer 'Die Revelationes sind in ihrer religiösen und künstlerischen Kraft das bedeutendste Literaturwerk aus dem skandinavischen Mittelalter.' (Kindlers Literaturlexikon) Erste vollständige deutsche Ausgabe und erste hochdeutsche Übersetzung. Auszüge in niederdeutscher Sprache waren um 1478, 1485 und 1496 in Lübeck gedruckt worden. Die Holzschnitte entsprechen denen der lateinischen Ausgabe von 1500. Florian Waldauf Ritter von Waldenstein (1450-1510), der den Auftrag für das vorliegende Werk von Kaiser Maximilian erhielt, veranlaßte die deutsche Übersetzung. Die eindrucksvollen Holzschnitte mit Szenen aus dem Leben der Hl. Birgitta von Schweden und der Päpste. Sie wurden von früheren Kunsthistorikern Albrecht Dürer zugeschrieben oder sie sahen ihn zumindest für die Entwürfe und Skizzen verantwortlich. In der neueren Forschung überwiegt die Zuschreibung an einen unbekannten 'Birgittenmeister'. Die 'Illustrationen des Birgittenbuches bilden bis heute den Angelpunkt eines lang umstrittenen, unzureichend geklärten Komplexes von Zeichnungen und Holzschnitten, die weder Dürer selbst noch seinen Schülern zugeschrieben werden konnten. Sie müssen weiter mit einem Notnamen auskommen' (Schoch). The second is by Matthias Dunn (c. 1788-1869), the mining engineer and from 1850 one of the first government mines inspectors under the Inspection of Mines Act. Both are rare with Library Hub listing only 3 printed copies of the first (LSE, Newcastle University and Goldsmith's/Senate House libraries) and only the Goldsmith's/Senate House copy of the second.The third is a useful portrait of London coal merchants in the mid 18th century, first published in 1743-44 with a second edition in 1745; all editions are scarce.
