English School (early 20th century) The three-masted merchantman ‘Zeelandia’ anchored offshore Watercolour Inscribed indistinctly verso with title 27cm x 36.5cm Unframed Four Japanese woodblock prints from a series, and a folio containing a larger quantity of prints and drawings, various sizes, all unframed The ‘Zeelandia’ was built in 1869 for Shaw, Saville & Albion's regular service to New Zealand and made the run in an excellent 84 days on hermaiden voyage. Reduced to a barque in 1882 as an economy measure, she was sold to Swedish owners in 1903. Later renamed “Kaleva”, she was last recorded in use as a barge in Canada in 1919.

Records receipts and disbursements relating to Gibside and the family, the first years carefully written with detailed entries, later years less so. Also included is a record of various agreements relating to land and occasionally of family events.
