Engraved vignette on the title-page, with later hand-colouring. Engraved initials, hand- and tailpieces. Uncut copy. Stains and light foxing, more intense at the end of the volume. Printed correction on a paper label pasted on p. XV. Contemporary paperboards. Scattered stains, defecs at the spine, lacking the rear cover.  First edition of this work by Adami, born in Livorno at the beginning of 18th Century. He studied in Rome and, after the military career he became antiquarian.In-folio (mm 383x263). Pagine [2], LXXXIX, [3]. Antiporta calcografica, impressione calcografica al frontespizio, dipinto successivamente. Frontalini, finalini e iniziali animate calcografiche, alcune delle quali successivamente colorate. Esemplare in barbe ad ampi margini. Aloni e lievi fioriture diffuse, che tendono ad intensificarsi alla fine del volume. Antica correzione con applicazione di tassello cartaceo al recto di p. XV. Legatura in cartonato coevo. Aloni diffusi, mancanze al dorso, manca il piatto posteriore. L'Autore, nato a Livorno nel primo decennio del XVIII secolo, dopo aver studiato a Roma esercitò in un primo tempo il mestiere delle armi. Dopo aver vestito l'abito di cavaliere del Militare Ordine di S. Stefano, ricoprì la carica di provveditore dell'Arte dei medici e degli speziali di Pistoia e nel 1761 fu nominato senatore dal granduca di Toscana. Socio della Colombaria, membro dell'Accademia Etrusca, dei Georgofili e di altre accademie, fu eletto dall'Arcadia di Roma custode della Colonia fiorentina. Vasta fu la sua produzione letteraria che abbracciò diversi campi del sapere.

Pagine [4], 186, [6], con 7 carte di tavole su rame e acciaio fuori testo. Mezza pelle coeva. Dorso a otto nervi, con titolo, filetti e fregi al dorso. Piatti con qualche abrasione e minime mancanze, fioriture diffuse, alone al margine esterno delle carte 135-186 e delle ultime sei carte. Bell'esemplare ad ampi margini.

Contemporary vellum over pasteboards, spine with title in gold on lettering-piece, and the inked Lupo d'Olmeto il venerabile libri cinque di don Pjo Rossi.Tre parti in un volume In-folio (mm 320x216). Pagine [24], 530, 136, 69, [3]. Segnatura: a-c⁴ A-Xxx⁴, A-R⁴; A-I⁴. Marca tipografica al frontespizio: leone su roccia, con il motto 'Vias tuas domine'. Frontalini, finalini e capilettera xilografici. Testo su due colonne. Abrasione restaurata al frontespizio con perdita di alcune lettere, fioriture diffuse, diverse carte brunite. Pergamena rigida coeva, con tassello e titolo in oro al dorso, vergato al dorso: 'Milizia Ecclesiastica' e '1648', taglio rosso. A pagina 407 si trova 'Lupo d'Olmeto il venerabile Libri cinque di don Pjo Rossi'. Timbro al frontespizio e alla pagina 68 della terza parte.

Large engraved vignette on the title-page, nine engraved headpieces and decorated initials; engraved tailpiece. Contemporary half-leather, marbled covers. Spine richly gilt tooled, title in gilt on lettering-piece. Some abrasions and losses to covers.  Elegant edition, containing eight poems - each composed by a different authors -, celebrating the sumptuous wedding of Archduchess Maria Amalia with Ferdinand Duke of Parma. Pinto 1441.In-folio (mm 355x250). Antiporta calcografica, Pagine [8], CXXXIV, [2 bianche]. Segnatura: *4 A-D4 E-M6 N4. Con inoltre una grande vignetta in rame al titolo, nove testatine calcografiche accompagnate da altrettanti capilettera pure in rame ed un bel finalino inciso. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle, dorso a nervi con ricchi fregi in oro e tassello con titolo manoscritto, piatti ricoperti di bella carta marmorizzata, spellature e mancanze. Al recto dell'antiporta, sul titolo e al verso dell'ultima carta timbro di un certo Deciano Deciani. Lievi aloni marginali. Bella copia marginosa stampata su carta forte. Ognuno degli otto canti è stato composto da un autore differente: il primo da Francesco Saverio Baldini, il secondo da Carlo Carasi, il terzo da Antonio Maria Scotti, il quarto da Carlo Scribani Rossi, il quinto da Francesco d'Aragona Appiani, il sesto da Giovanni Scotti, il settimo da Giovanni Battista Lando delle Caselle e l'ottavo da Giampaolo Maggi. Pinto 1441.

I: Folio (464x325 mm). [16], 194, [2], CII, [2] pages. Engraved medallion portrait of the author on the title-page. Late binding, title in gilt lettering. A good, uncut copy. Foxing and browning throughout. II: Large folio (534x370 mm). [2] pages, XX leaves of engraved plates. Foxing and spotting throughout. Wormholes to the gutter of numerous leaves, without any loss. Contemporary half-vellum. A tiny hole to the upper cover. Minor losses to the covers, joints somewhat weak.  I: First edition of this important work. "The book is rather an absolutely independent work, quite different from and unrelated to the author's large anatomy. Its subject is the textures of the different parts of the human body as compared with the texture of the organs of animals and plants. It contains a great number of different figures, most of which are intended to illustrate Mascagni's view as to the vascular nature of the texture of organs. The work is beautifully printed, the very fine title-vignette shows a portrait of Mascagni..." (Choulant-Frank, 316). I: In-folio (mm 464x325). Pagine [16], 194, [2], CII, [2]. Medaglione inciso con ritratto dell'autore sul frontespizio. Legatura posteriore in mezzo zigrino con titolo in oro. Fioriture e bruniture sparse. Intonso con barbe. II: In-folio grande (mm 534x370). Minime mancanze agli angoli, legatura un po' allentata, fioriture e lievi aloni diffusi. Fori di tarlo al margine interno di numerose carte, che tuttavia rimangono ben lontani dalle immagini.

The inner and lower margin of the last leaf of text widely restored. II: 15, [1] pages. Title-page browned, marginal foxing. Nineteenth-century marbled cardboards. Small wears to the corners and spine.  I work: Extremely rare legal work - apparently unrecorded - which deals with the validity of buying and selling contracts drawn up in exceptional circumstances, such as wars or plagues, on the basis of yìjuridical as well as canonical sources.  II work: Advice on a legal dispute discussed at the Senate of Genua.I: In-folio (mm 298x202). Pagine [2], 69, [1] (di 3, manca l'ultima carta bianca). Marca tipografica xilografica al frontespizio. Diffuse fioriture e bruniture. Segni d'uso, ultimi due fascicoli uniformemente bruniti. Ampi restauri al margine interno e inferiore dell'ultima carta di testo. II: Pagine 15, [1]. Bruniture al frontespizio, fioriture marginali. Legatura ottocentesca in carta decorata su piatti in cartone. Dorso liscio. Qualche abrasione agli angoli e al dorso. I opera: Rarissimo trattatello giuridico - apparentemente sconosciuto a cataloghi e bibliografie - che discute la liceità e validità di contratti di compravendita stipulati in condizioni di eccezionalità quali guerre o epidemie, e comprendenti clausole di retrovendita. L'autore attinge non solo a fonti giuridiche, ma anche canoniche in quanto la pratica della retrovendita era spesso forma mascherata di usura. All'ultima carta la consultatio comprende, quindi, pareri di teologi attivi presso tribunali inquisitoriali. II opera: Parere su una controversia legale, presentata davanti al Senato della città di Genova.

A fine Plutarchus' Vitae edition, highly appreciated for its philological accuracy.In-folio (mm 333x210). Carte [22], 401 [i.e. 392]. Segnatura: α-Y6 δ4 a-z8 A-Cc8. Errore nella numerazione: si passa da carta 390 a carta 400. Marca editoriale al frontespizio e in fine: palma tra i cui rami si intravvede una lunga pietra. Ai lati del tronco: Palma Beb. Legatura in mezza pergamena coeva con doppio tassello, autore, titolo, data e luogo di pubblicazione in oro al dorso. Firma di possesso al risguardo anteriore, firma di possesso e note manoscritte cassate al frontespizio.

He became a director of Stewarts advertising agency, along with Marcus "Brum" Brumwell. Brum and his wife Rene, along with Donald, mixed in the London social world of the 1950's and 1960's and knew figures as diverse as Ernst Freud, Harold Wilson and Judi Dench. Brum and Rene were especially friendly with the St Ives set, most notably Ben Nicolson and Barbara Hepworth. These prints are a series of intimate personal Christmas gifts to friends and colleagues. Each print was commissioned with the consent and input of the artist, may of whom were personal friends.
