Chaucer, Geoffrey - The Canterbury Tales, translated by Neville Coghill and profusely illustrated by the illustrator and graphic designer Charles Mozley, an unsewn bi-folio Atlas Folio set. A limited edition of 1000 sets were produced of which less than 200 complete sets survive. Privately commissioned by John Deuss printed on handmade paper, Westerham Press and Pennington Fine Art Lithographers of London. Each set comprises eight tales cased in four gilt titled cloth covers with quarter cloth spines tied by matching ribbons. Carefully revised by Lt.-Col. Buckle. The presumed order of descent is drawn from external evidence. Haig died in 1872, before the 1883 gift inscription, and the Bank was founded in 1885, post it.. Some wear and marking to the binding, internally a touch toned, but generally clean.

Folio, full white Nigerian goatskin gilt by Smith Settle, Otley, upper board with elaborate gilt design by David Eccles after one executed by Cobden-Sanderson for the Kelmscott Chaucer, spine lettered in gilt and decorated in gilt in compartments, t.e.g., blue silk marker, in blue clamshell box; richly illustrated after Morris' original designs; with an essay by William Peterson on the Kelmscott Chaucer, reprinted to accompany the facsimile. Limited edition facsimile no. 142 of 1000 numbered copies for sale (1010 in total).. A little wear to case but otherwise fine.

A serious and in-depth work which, despite an occasionally dogmatic tone remains a hugely important text on the development of the modern organ. With an assortment of organ ephemera comprising 5 Indentures for apprentice organ builders (2 Victorian, 3 20th c.), one BIOS medallion (Birmingham 1987), one CIty of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra medallion 1991, a framed Cavaille-Coll estimate for the installation of a 'voix humaine de C a G' and one other framed.. Spines dulled with some marking, internally clean.

NO RESERVE Broadside.- Pigeon Fancying.- Colombarian Society, listing both the articles of an unidentified society and the standards required of birds for show, marginal browning, some spotting and soiling, folds, with closed tears, minor loss at 1 corner, folio, the articles dated April 1st 1800, the standards dated April 6th 1802.⁂Both the date of the piece offered here and the clear focus on the showing of Almond Tumblers suggest very strongly that it was issued by the first Columbarian Society to have been established, the society to which the pastime of pigeon fancying (and the many societies since established worldwide) owe their parentage. The Columbarian Society was formed in 1750, and first met at the Globe in Fleet Street: its members were principally concerned with breeding and showing Almond Tumblers: to satisfy an interest in breeding other species the rival Feather Club was established in 1825.
