Gutachten:Francesco Rossi, 01.05.2016, liegt in Kopie vor;Bernd Konrad, 12.08.2018, liegt in Kopie vor.Provenienz:Privatbesitz, Italien.Das vorliegende Gemälde gehört zu einer Gruppe von Porträts Friedrichs III. von Habsburg (1415-1493), Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches ab 1452, die in verschiedenen Materialien ausgeführt wurden.Als Inspirationsquelle für dessen Ausführung verweisen Francesco Rossi und Bernd Konrad auf eine Medaille des florentinischen Bildhauers Bertoldo di Giovanni, die 1469 in Florenz, möglicherweise im Auftrag von Lorenzo dem Prächtigen, ausgeführt wurde und ein informelles, privates Bildnis des Kaisers wiedergibt. Friedrich III. ist tatsächlich mit einem großen Filzhut und nicht mit der Krone dargestellt: Der Mann hebt sich vor einem blaugrünen Hintergrund ab und ist im Profil mit der Büste nach links dargestellt. Anhand einer Infrarotreflektographie, die Konrad in seinem Gutachten erwähnt, hat sich herausgestellt, dass der Maler eine Vorzeichnung angefertigt hat. Der Umriss des Porträts scheint von einer mit kleinen Löchern nachgezeichneten Zeichnung auf Holz übertragen worden zu sein. Anschließend dachte der Künstler über die Komposition nach, die er dann wahrscheinlich mit Hilfe der "Spolvero"-Technik umsetzte.Zusammen mit einigen Gemälden umfasst die Gruppe der Porträts auch einige Medaillen und Münzen. Neben der vorliegenden Fassung ist eine Zeichnung aus dem Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv Wien (HHSA) zu erwähnen. Dieses Porträt, folio 302 r., ist aus der 12 Bände umfassenden Chronik "Der Tir:olerAdler" herausgelöst worden, die Matthias Burglechner (1573 - 1642) bis 1636 zusammengestellt hat. Im Vergleich zu dem nun angebotenen Gemälde ist das Porträt der HHSA in den verschiedenen Details und Formen sowie in der Farbgebung präziser ausgeführt worden. Die Haut ist mit sehr feinen Linien definiert und der Hut des Kaisers mit brillanten Glanzlichtern modelliert. Außerdem ist ein blaues Tuch mit Brokatmuster am Arm des Kaisers zu sehen, das auf der Medaille fehlt. Die Unterschiede im Stil der beiden Porträts deuten darauf hin, dass sie nicht in der gleichen Zeit entstanden sind, sondern dass zwischen ihnen einige Jahrzehnte liegen: Die Art und Weise der Darstellung scheint auf einen Maler hinzuweisen, der einige Zeit vor dem Zeichner des HHSA-Porträts tätig war und vielleicht aus einem anderen geografischen Gebiet stammt.Die Infrarot-Reflektographie zeigt ferner, dass sich auf der Rückseite eine heute nicht mehr erkennbare Inschrift befand, die das Gemälde dem Venezianer Giovanni Bellini zuordnete. Die Art des für die Tafel verwendeten Holzes lässt jedoch vermuten, dass es sich eher um einen Maler deutscher Herkunft handelt: Es geht nämlich um Weichholz, das üblicherweise in Deutschland und auch in Italien entlang der Alpen verwendet wurde. Im 15. und frühen 16. Jahrhundert waren bereits viele deutschsprachige Künstler in Italien tätig. Unter ihnen dürfte der aus Augsburg stammende Maler Hans Burgkmair (1473 -1531), der sich zwischen 1505 und 1507 in Italien aufhielt, der für unseren Fall relevanteste Maler sein. Aufgrund stilistischer und formaler Ähnlichkeiten mit Gemälden sowie Zeichnungen wurde dieses Werk von Bernd Konrad ihm oder eher seinem Umkreis zugeordnet. The endpapers contain manuscript copies of speeches given by conspirators Lord Russel, Thomas Walcot, William Hone and John Rouse.

Middle East.- Draft Mandates for Mesopotamia and Palestine as submitted for the Approval of the League of Nations, original staple binding, faint rust marks, small folio, 1921.⁂ The Mandate for Palestine includes 27 articles relating, among other things, to the following: creating the political and economic conditions that will enable the establishment of a national home for the Jewish nation while maintaining the civil and religious rights of all the residents of the country; allocating lands for Jewish settlement; creating a functioning governance system - laws, economics, foreign relations, maintaining public order, protecting the holy places, protecting the freedom of conscience and freedom of religion; ensuring the status of English, Hebrew and Arabic as official languages; and more. Formulating the Mandate for Palestine took two years and on 24 July 1922, after corrections and revisions, it was accepted by the Council of the League of Nations and became an internationally binding document.
