Although the title page is dated 1827, the maps carry a variety of "corrected to" dates which fluctuate between 1827 and 1830. The atlas appears to match Chubb CCCXV but this edition has the extra map of the whole of Yorkshire which is only called for in Chubb CCCXVI. (1)

Two scarce large and impressive folio printed orders, with ms insertions, by order of John Earl Poulett, Lord Lieutenant for the County of Somerset, detailing measures for the Defence and Security of the Realm during the present war [against Napoleon], detailing plans and proposals for rendering the Body of the people to the general Defence in case of Invasion and to assemble and lead the drivers of sheep to fixed routes, etc. according to the plans and arrangements which I may receive from His Majesty, given under my hand and seal this 24th day of November 1803, with attached seal and signature of John Earl Poulett, together with a similar document giving orders for driving cattle. These measures would have been adopted in the event of an invasion, with the need to supply fresh meat to the soldiers. (1)

Locuras de Europa, Dialogo entre Mercurio & Luciano..., mid 17th c., 36pp. of neatly written manuscript, slightly dampstained to lower outer corners with some fraying, modern qtr. calf, slim folio. A pre-publication manuscript of the Follies of Europe, which was not printed until 1748, in Madrid. The Follies of Europe, written just before the author`s death, is a dialogue on the style of Lucian; in it Saavedra defends the House of Austria, Spain and Roman Catholicism, against the intrigues of those nations that oppose them for political or religious reasons. Saavedra was a diplomet and political writer, best known for his "Idea de un principe politico christiano", which went through many editions, and was translated into many editions. (1)
