Dunoyer de Segonzac et un des plus beaux et des plus recherchés parmi les livres illustrés modernes : 119 eaux-fortes originales (Lioré et Cailler, 863 à 981), dont 99 grandes compositions tirées hors-texte. Tirage unique à 250 exemplaires numérotés, tous sur papier vélin de Rives, filigrané à la grappe de raisins et à la tête de bÅ“uf. Un des 25 exemplaires d’auteur, hors-commerce (n°V), accompagné d’une suite des 119 eaux-fortes, reliées à part et formant le troisième volume. Très bel exemplaire relié par Georges CRETTE pour le Maître, qui l’a enrichi de cinq dessins originaux pour l’ouvrage (plume et lavis d’encre de chine), signés et annotés, dont un sur double-page (pli au centre) représentant des scènes de labours de la vigne et de vendanges.

All signed in pencil by Matt Groening with his name alone. Each with a few pencil annotations and file holes to the base. Some extremely light age wear, VG, 4.

WHITE MILES: (1914-2000) American Costume Designer. A good original pen, ink and watercolour costume design, drawn and signed by White, one page, folio, n.p., n.d. (c.1952). White has executed five separate designs, including two clowns, for use in the Cecil B. deMille film The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). Four small swatches of orange, yellow and white fabrics are stapled to the upper and lower left corners. Signed by White at the base. VG The Greatest Show on Earth, a drama film set in the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus starred Betty Hutton, Cornel Wilde, Charlton Heston, James Stewart and Dorothy Lamour. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture and also received an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design.

PIUS IX: (1792-1878) Pope of the Catholic Church 1846-78. L.S., Pius PP IX, one page, folio, St. Peter`s, Rome, 3rd January 1872, to John Baptist, Bishop of Veroli. The Pope offers his greetings and Apostolic Blessing to his correspondent, and continues `We welcome the proof of your love towards us in your Christmas letter, commemorating what our Redeemer has bestowed upon us. With regard to the trials which oppress us, and the evils which afflict the Church of God, you show that your soul is deeply affected, and demonstrate an ardent desire, that, by the grace of God, and his merciful gift of joyful things, we may achieve and rejoice in a longed-for peace.` The Pope continues to re-inforce the power of prayer and in concluding writes `as proof of our good will towards you, we pledge the apostolic blessing, which we affectionately impart to all the clergy, lay people and faithful entrusted to your care.` With integral address leaf bearing a red wax seal. Some light age wear and a few minor, neat splits at the edges of the folds, just affecting a few words of text, but not the signature, about VG
