Numerose illustrazioni incise su legno, molte a piena pagina, alcune in rosso e nero. Iniziale xilografica in rosso, testatina e finalino xilografici alle carte preliminari. Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione, in barbe e impresso su carta forte. Qualche occasionale e minima fioritura, allentati gli ultimi due fascicoli. Brossura editoriale originale, con unghie e decorata in rosso 'all'antica'. Dorso liscio, decorato in rosso. Leggera usura dei labbri dei piatti, qualche piccolo strappo a quello inferiore. Elegante catalogo dedicato dal noto storico della tradizione medica italiana e collezionista Giovanni Carbonelli ai libri medici apparsi in Piemonte nel XV e XVI secolo, corredato di ampie e accurate notizie bibliografiche e copiosamente illustrato. Una repertorio che conserva anche oggi un grande interesse, ed è frequentemente citato. Carbonelli fu tra i promotori della Accademia di Storia dell'Arte Sanitaria, fondata a Roma nel 1920 nel complesso di San Pietro in Sassia.Folio (351x252 mm). [8], 434, [2] pages. The first leaf is blank. Woodcut title-page in red and black, title within a large and elaborate border. Typographic title-page in red and black, with woodcut coat of arms of Savoy House, likewise in red and black. Colophon printed in red, within black border. Numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, many are full-page, some in red and black. Woodcut initial in red, head-and tailpiece. An excellent copy, uncut and printed on strong paper. Minor foxing in places, the last two quires slightly loose. Publisher's wrappers, with yapp edges and decorated in red in antique style. Smooth spine, decorated in red. Board edges slightly worn, a few short tears to the lower one. Fine catalogue compiled by the renowned historian of Italian medical tradition and great collector Giovanni Carbonelli. The work list the 15th- and 16th-century libri medici issued in Piedmont region, and is supplemented with lenghty and detailed bibliographical notes, and lavish illustrations. The bibliography is still of the greatest import, and frequently quoted by scholars. Carbonelli was one of the co-founders of the Accademia di Storia dell'Arte Sanitaria, established in the Complex of Santo Spirito in Sassia in Rome in 1920.

Esemplare in barbe, privo delle 10 tavole incise da Luigi Rados. Qualche leggera fioritura, tracce d'uso, piccole macchie ai margini bianchi. Legatura ottocentesca in mezzo cartonato blu con angoli. Dorso liscio. Macchie, aloni e gore ai piatti; angoli e labbri dei piatti abrasi, con alcune mancanze. Mende al dorso, in corrispondenza di entrambe le cuffie. Fessurata la cerniera posteriore. Prima e rara edizione di questo catalogo basato sulla ricca raccolta di incisioni in possesso del nobile padovano Luigi Gaudio, finemente impressa dalla Tipografia della Minerva in una tiratura di soli 120 esemplari. Il nome dell'autore, Antonio Marsand (1765-1842), è impresso in calce alla lettera dedicatoria allo stesso Gaudio. Ogni incisione presentata, e scelta a rappresentare le diverse scuole, è illustrata da Marsand con erudite note, che gli valsero l'ammissione nella prestigiosa Accademia romana di San Luca. Folio (312x230 mm). [8], XIII, [3], 102, [2] pages. Engraved vignette to the title-page. Uncut copy, lacking the 10 plates engraved by Luigi Rados. A few foxing, some fingermarks, small stains to the blank margins. 19-century half-cardboards. Smooth spine. Stains, spots, and waterstains to the covers; board edges and corners worn. Extremities of spine slightly damaged; the rear joint cracked. First and rare edition of this treatise, mainly based on the rich collection of engravings assembled by the Paduan nobleman Luigi Gaudio, and finely printed by the printed press La Minerva in a limited edition of only 120 copy. The author, Antonio Marsand (1765-1842), signed the preliminary address to Gaudio. Each engraving included as representative of an artistic schools carefully described, and supplemente with Marsand's lenghty and learned notes.

Contemporary marbled wrappers, spine with title in brown ink on paper label. Minor losses to the spine and corners. A contemporary hand had writen the author's namen in brown ink on thefront pastedown.The volume contains two essays, in epistolary form, by the historian and bibliographer Mauro Boni (1746-1817), the Lettera prima. Pagine [2], 336; [8], 50, [38]. Esemplare discreto, uniforme e marcata brunitura dovuta alla qualità della carta e dell'inchiostro. Diffusi aloni e fioriture, grande gora che interessa la porzione inferiore di tutte le carte del volume. Legatura coeva in mezza pergamena su piatti in cartone. Dorso a cinque nervi, con titolo in oro su tassello nocciola chiaro. Tagli screziati in rosso. Qualche macchia e traccia di polvere ai piatti, più evidenti a quello posteriore. Prima edizione della Bibliotheca di Johann Christoph Mylius (1710-1757), bibliotecario a Jena e dal 1740, anno della pubblicazione di questa opera, professore di filosofia presso la locale università. Mylius presenta la sua opera come un supplemento a due notissimi repertori dedicati agli anonimi e pseudonimi, il Theatrum anonymorum et pseudonymorum dell'amburghese Vincent Placcius (1642-1699) e lo Schediasma de anonymis et pseudonymis di Christoph August Heumann (1681-1763), dati rispettivamente alle stampe nel 1708 (in edizione notevolmente accresciuta) e nel 1711. La seconda parte del volume comprende gli Addenda di Mylius.Two parts in one volume, folio (351x209 mm). [2], 336; [8], 50, [38] pages. A fair copy, uniformly browned as expected. Spotted and foxed throughout, large waterstain to the lower margin of the volume. Contemporary half-vellum over pasteboards. Spine with five raised bands, title in gold on light hazel lettering-piece. Edges speckled red. A few stains and traces of dust to the covers, especially to the lower one. First edition of the Bibliotheca by Johann Christoph Mylius (1710-1757), librarian and since 1740 professor of philosophy at the University of Jena. Mylius presents his publication as a supplement to two previous and well-known works devoted to anonymous and pseudonymous writers, the Theatrum anonymorum et pseudonymorum by Vincent Placcius (1642-1699), and the Schediasma de anonymis et pseudonymis by Christoph August Heumann (1681-1763), issued in 1708 and 1711 respectively. The second part of the volume contains the Addenda.

Middle East.- Shaw (Thomas) Travels, or Observations relating to Several Parts of Barbary and the Levant, 2 vol. in 1 including Supplement, first edition, half-title, title printed in red & black with engraved vignette of Sheldonian theatre, 32 engraved maps and plates on 29 leaves (3 printed on both sides), several folding or double-page, engraved head- & tail-pieces, initials and decorations, woodcut diagrams, tear to lower margin of O2 of Supplement, occasional light browning or soiling but generally a very good clean copy, contemporary calf, rubbed and scuffed, rebacked and repaired, [Blackmer 1533], folio, Oxford, at the Theatre, 1738-46.⁂ "Shaw was chaplain to the English factory at Algiers from 1720 to 1733. During this period he visited Egypt, Sinai, Palestine, Cyprus and most of North Africa...[The work] is especially esteemed for its botanical and zoological plates, in addition to the information Shaw imparts on the antiquities, geology and geography of the areas he visited." (Blackmer). The supplement was issued in response to Richard Pococke's attack in his Description of the East, published 1743-45.

Egyptology.- Mariette-Bey (Auguste) Album du Musée de Boulaq, first edition, 40 albumen prints by Emile Béchard and Hippolyte Délié mounted on thick card leaves (photographs c. 250 x 190mm.), some light spotting to mounts and text, title creased and reinforced at upper and lower edges, a few other leaves repaired at edges, original morocco-backed blind-stamped cloth, spine gilt, g.e., rubbed, folio, Cairo, Mourès & Cie., 1871.⁂ Important photographic record of the first Egyptian public museum, founded by Auguste Mariette in 1858 in a former warehouse on the banks of the Nile. Unfortunately the river flooded in 1878 damaging the museum and the contents were moved in 1892 to a palace in Giza and then again in 1902, to the current museum in Tahrir Square in central Cairo. The magnificent photographs by Béchard and Délié of Egyptian statuary, funerary artefacts, sarcophagi etc. won a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1878.
