Operation Orders for July 20th 1916, typed in the field, July 1916, pilots’ names listed on left against morning and afternoon patrols in blue ink (by Hawker?), identifying names as self, Knight, Sibley, Wilson, and Wood, signed in pencil by Hawker as Commander lower right, a few minor spots and creases, one page, folio. Hawker from Longparish in Hampshire, was to become the first pilot to earn a VC for aerial combat. He was killed in a dogfight with the Red Baron on 23rd November 1916 and his autograph is thus very rare. (1)

Brown’s Combat Report claiming victory over Manfred von Richthofen, on 21st April 1918, the copy dated 9th June 1936, one typed page in which Roy Brown describes how he ‘dived on pure red triplane which was firing on Lieut. May. I got a long burst into him and he went down vertical and was observed to crash by Lieut. Mellersh and Lieut. May’, additional red typed note indicating that this is a certified true copy from the original extracted for permanent retention by the Squadron, signed by H. A. Jones [British Official Historian for The War in the Air], one page, folio. The dispute as to whether Roy Brown fired the shot that killed The Red Baron has raged for years. While a majority believe that he was not responsible for shooting down Richthofen’s triplane, the mythology over the death of the Red Baron makes this report an important historical document. (1)

The New Pioneer. vol. 1, nos. 1-11, December 1938 to October 1939, 276 pp., continuously paginated, adverts cut from final leaf, some spotting and soiling, stapled as issued and loosely contained in contemp. cloth journal binder, damp stained and soiled, folio. The New Pioneer was a far-right monthly magazine founded by Lord Lymington (Gerard Wallop) and John Beckett. It followed the pro-German line until it ceased publication in January 1940. (1)

A photograph album containing fifty-six mounted albumen prints, 1880s, including nineteen relating to Suakin, images with captions in the negative include town and harbour of Suakin, HMS Dolphin, Officers - Grenadier Guards, Brig-General Hudson CB & Staff Indian Contingent, Handub - Camp of 24th Company, R.E., Otao, from Signallers’ Hill with Terminus S & B Railway, others identified on mounts include Michali’s Store, Suakin from the land side, 28 Bombay N.I., 15th Sikhs, Suakin from the Harbour, Ladies of Suakin, Sir G. Greaves, Lord Wolseley [and others on horseback], MacNeil’s Zeriba from a drawing by Lt. F. WWII - Second Army. A short account of the operations of the Second British Army, prepared by G. (Ops) Second Army, 2 vols., [1945], bound photocopies of typed sheets, plus a few photographs, folding coloured maps, sketches and plans, etc., orig. printed boards with spine ties, a little soiled, folio, together with an original copy of the secret photocopied pamphlet by the Second Army titled ‘Eclipse ABC’, Germany, March 1945, folio sheets with cloth spine tie, orig. printed wrappers, slightly chipped and soiled, oblong folio. Operation Eclipse was defined as the plans and preparations for the operation of occupying Germany. The Eclipse ABC lists alphabetically all major subjects that were likely to be met by Commanders and Staff in the execution of their duties and giving them a reference to the subjects contained in other pamphlets.
