WALPOLE ROBERT: (1676-1745) British Prime Minister 1721-42. D.S., R Walpole, one page, folio, n.p. (London), February 1723. The manuscript document relates to Jane, Countess of Rochester, and is a warrant to make a payment of £1000 without account to her, being one half of the annual amount due to her as granted by His Majesty 'in consideration of the loss sustained by that Family from the Fire which burnt their House at Petersham near Richmond in Surrey'. Signed by Walpole in the right margin and countersigned by Henry Pelham (1694-1754) British Prime Minister 1743-54 and George Baillie (1664-1738) Scottish Politician, Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. Signed by the Countess of Rochester and her witness individually to the verso beneath a brief manuscript note acknowledging receipt of the full payment. With a single ink line running diagonally through the text of the document. With blank integral leaf. Some light age wear and some minor creasing and a few small tears to the right border, only very slightly affecting the signatures, about VG Jane Leveson-Gower (1672-1725) Countess of Clarendon and Rochester, wife of Henry Hyde (1672-1753) 4th Earl of Clarendon and 2nd Earl of Rochester. KRUGER PAUL: (1825-1904) South African President 1883-1900. Kruger gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the Second Boer War, 1899-1902. D.S., S J P Kruger, one page, folio, Pretoria, 30th August 1898. The partially printed document, in Afrikaans (untranslated), relates to Daniel Jansen van Vuren and appears to be a land registry document. Signed by Kruger at the foot. A purple rubber stamp, affecting the first two initials of Kruger's signature, indicates that the land was transferred on 20th July 1903 into the name of Vuren's wife, Maria. A large oblong folio brochure issued for Gilbert & George's exhibition New Horny Pictures at the White Cube, London, 2nd June - 15th July 2001, individually signed by Gilbert and George individually in black ink, with their first names, to the inside front cover. The brochure features sixteen colour illustrations of their works including Geography, Ten, Phone, West End, Back etc. Some very light, extremely minor age wear to the front cover, VG
EDWARD VIII: (1894-1972) King of the United Kingdom January - December 1936. Later Duke of Windsor. D.S., Edward P, as Prince of Wales, two pages, folio, Court at Saint James's, 1st January 1918. The partially printed document, which bears a rubber stamp signature of King George V at the head, grants the dignity of a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to Frederick James Fedarb. Signed by the Prince at the conclusion in his capacity as Grand Master. With blank integral leaf and blind embossed seal. Some light dust staining and minor age wear, otherwise VG
KINNAIRD ARTHUR: (1847-1923) 11th Lord Kinnaird. English Banker, a leading Footballer and President of The Football Association 1890-1923. Kinnaird played in the second FA Cup final of 1873 and participated in a further eight (an unmatched total of nine) and was on the winning side five times. Rare D.S., Kinnaird, (a good, bold example), three pages (vellum), folio, London, 31st October 1910. The manuscript document is an Indenture between Kinnaird and The Alliance Assurance Company Limited confirming the transfer of mortgage on houses and other property in Southsea and stating, in part, '…being a transfer to the Company of the several mortgages for securing the principal sums therein referred to amounting to the aggregate sum of fifty four thousand two hundred and eighty pounds…' further stating that the sum was 'secured on houses in Clarence Parade (formerly known as Dagmar Terrace) Southsea by the seven indentures… and further secured on houses in Auckland Road and South Parade, Southsea…' Signed by Kinnaird at the conclusion and also bearing several countersignatures of witnesses and directors of the Alliance Assurance Company. LEE TENG-HUI: (1923- ) President of the Republic of China and Chairman of the Kuomintang (1988-2000), sometimes referred to as the 'Father of Taiwan's Democracy'. T.L.S., Zeng hui Lee, two pages, folio, Taiwan, 3rd September 1996, to the Honorable Paul Simon, on official stationery of the President of the Republic of China. Lee wishes his correspondent a happy retired life, thanking him for his 'long-standing staunch friendship for the Republic of China.' Continuing 'Throughout your long years of service, you have rendered us strong and steadfast support in many ways. You call for an ROC seat in the U.N. and other international organization's, you speak highly of our democratization, and you call for peace across the Taiwan Straits.' Concluding 'I am impressed by your family's enduring association with the Chinese people and the efforts you have made on behalf of the interests of the Chinese-American community. You have won admiration for your championing the cause of peace and security in East Asia.' VG Paul Martin Simon (1928-2003) American Politician, supporter of Taiwan and opposed United States policy to isolate Taiwan. He helped convince President Clinton to allow Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui to visit the United States. His father was a Lutheran minister and missionary to China.
JUXON WILLIAM: (1582-1663) Archbishop of Canterbury 1660-63, previously Lord High Treasurer 1636-41. Juxon was present on the scaffold when King Charles I was executed and offered the King his last rites. Ink signature on a folio piece evidently removed from a Treasury document and bearing the countersignatures of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury Thomas Howard (1586-1646) 21st Earl of Arundel, Francis Cottington (1579-1652) 1st Baron Cottington and Francis Windebank (1582-1646) Secretary of State under Charles I. With age wear and minor repairs to the head and horizontal folds. G
FREDERICK II: (1712-1786) King of Prussia 1740-86. Known as Frederick the Great and remembered for his military victories. D.S., Fr, with a flourish, three pages, folio, Berlin, 14th March 1786. The untranslated manuscript document grants a patent to the Company of the Romberg Regiment under the command of Captain Carl Friderich von Hamberger. Signed by Frederick at the conclusion. The document has undergone extensive professional restoration and is now neatly inlaid to a large folio sheet and with irregular edges to the surving parts of the original document, slightly affecting the conclusions of some words of text, but not the signature, FR

An interesting folio of topographical watercolours, to include 'Madras', most inscribed verso. Condition Report: MADRAS: Minor foxing and paint loss. Colours bright. Mount badly damaged.FELIXSTOWE: Both watercolour and mount clean. Colours bright, v. minor foxing.All other watercolours are discoloured, foxed and some have paint loss. Mounts similarly damaged.
Gösta Ehrenberg (Swedish 1923- ) A Folio of Twelve Coloured Limited Edition Lithographs entitled "Eloge des Pécheurs" signed, dated and numbered 13/100 in the lower margins together with the accompanying booklet also signed. Visual artist, cartoonist, graphic artist, born 1923 in Falun. Studied at the Academy of Arts (1942-1946.) Provenance: Madeline worked in Paris for the Foreign Office in the British Embassy before WWII broke out. During the war she worked in the Special Operations Executive in London and facilitated another woman to be returned to France by SOE to work with the resistance. After the war she returned to Paris where she worked with UNESCO. It was in Paris where she met William (Bill) Currall and married in April 1954. He was an artist in his own right and mixed in artistic circles perhaps this gave rise to the inscription on the Ehrenberg print "To Bill and Madeline".
