The Le Geyt Volume, being a folio of watercolour drawings from Europe, principally Italy and Switzerland, circa 1830 onwards, most with titles and original pencil annotations, various sizes but mainly approx 15 x 24cm, reputedly from the family of Thomas Girtin (1775-1802) and to the vendor by descent Condition Report / Extra Information Vendor states from the family of Thomas Girtin and thence by descent, but buyers must decide for themselves prior to bidding. 26 drawings in total.
LORD DANBY: (1632-1712), English Politician, part of the 'Immortal Seven' group that invited William III, Prince of Orange to depose James II of England as monarch during the Glorious Revolution. L.S., Danby, one page, folio, Wallingford House, Oxford, 30th April 1675, to George Berkeley. Danby informs his correspondent 'After my hearty commendations… Granting several fees amounting annually in the whole unto their sum of twenty six pounds thirteen shillings four pence payable to the receipt of his Majesties Exchequer unto my very good Lord George Lord Berkeley as Keeper of Nonesuch House and park…' Continuing 'And the sum of fifty two pounds four shillings disbursed by the said Lord for… Loades of Hay provided by his Lordship for the deare in the parke in the year 1670…' Together with George Berkeley (1628-1698), English Merchant and Politician, Keeper of the house gardens and parks of Nonsuch Palace. A.L.S., Berkeley, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to a Gentleman [Lord Danby]. Berkeley informs his correspondent '…Hay bought and provided by me as Keeper of Nonesuch Parke for his Majesties Deere these and spent in the year 1670.' Concluding with the account receipt for £52. 04: 00. With blank integral leaf. The Lord Danby letter being adhered to a mounting board. With age related wear, creasing and slight discolouration. G, 2 Nonsuch Palace, a Tudor Royal Palace, built by Henry VIII in Surrey, England; it stood from 1538 to 1682-3.
GUSTAV III: (1746-1792) King of Sweden 1771-92. Assassinated. A good D.S., Gustaf, a fine, bold example, as King, at the conclusion, two pages, folio, Stockholm, 1st April 1778, in Swedish. The manuscript document is a military commission appointing Baron Carl Friedric Vennett to be a Second Lieutenant in the Jamptland Regiment. Countersigned at the foot by Baron Wadenstierna. With an attractive blind embossed paper seal affixed immediately below the King's signature and with various other official stamps in the blank left margins of each page. With blank integral leaf. VG
Attributed to L.E.B. (British, 19th Century) Mounted Life Guards on cavalry horses - the first one is of Officers and other ranks of the 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars, c.1850, and the other depicts an officer, two troopers, and the band of the 17th Lancers, also circa 1850, representing the uniforms of the pre-Crimean War period from a folio, watercolour (2) 26 x 34cm (10 x 13in)
A William IV mahogany rectangular folio stand by A & J Ashfords, Saxmundham, with carved end brackets forming a shelf above an open shelf with guides to accept folios, flanked by plain pilaster sides, on a plinth base, makers paper label verso 117 x 145 x 59cm (46 x 57 x 23in) Provenance: Sibton Park, Suffolk, part of the original furnishings, removed following the sale in 2010 There are moilding losses to the capital and plinths of both pillasters, ink stains to the top and paint spatters
