Volume two in the same style but has been rebacked with weak hinges due to the weight of the book.* The register of the lands of England, framed by order of William the Conqueror. It was sometimes termed 'Rotulus Wintoniae',and was the book from which judgment was to be given upon the value, tenures, and services of the lands there in described.A unique record, unmatched in any other country at so early a date. The materials from which it was compiled were collected by Royal Commissioners in the shire courts.This was the first printing of the Domesday book, it was issued without printed title-pages (as with the original ).
