He was beatified in 1661 and canonised in 1665 by Pope Alexander VII. Pope Pius IX declared him a Doctor of the Church, patron of writers and journalists in 1877.Condition Report: light rubbing to boards, spines a little rubbed heads and tails, corners rubbed and a little bumped, pencil annotations to front pastedown, light marks to prelims., and occasional light foxing, joint cracked internally (but firm) to front board of vol.1.

Africa.- Ogilby (John) Africa: being an Accurate Description of the Regions of Ægypt, Barbary, Lybia, and Billedulgerid ..., first edition, half-title reading "English Atlas, Tome the First', engraved allegorical frontispiece, title in red and black, large folding double-page map of Africa, 42 engraved double-page maps, plans and plates, 10 engraved plates, of which 4 double-image plates trimmed and bound-in separately, illustrations, engraved initials and head-pieces, C4 & D3 with tiny rust-holes affecting margin and odd letter, G1 with tear to upper corner affecting printed sidenotes, neat old repair, N1 with marginal tear and neat old repair, signature 'R' complete but misbound, W6 verso with small ink-stain, early ink ownership inscription to front pastedown, bookplate, contemporary panelled calf, sympathetically rebacked, retaining original red morocco spine label, expert restoration to corners, [Wing O163; Hosken p.152; Shapero, Africana, 277], folio, by Tho. Johnson, for the Author, 1670.⁂ An excellent copy with crisp, bright maps and plates. This copy includes the 'Emperor of Morocco' plate which is frequently missing. The first edition of this important work on Africa. It was the most comprehensive work on Africa in English published in the seventeenth century, and is largely based on the work of Offert Dapper. Provenance: Inscribed "Sir Edward Henry Lee his book, given him by E. Lindsay" to front pastedown, in a juvenile hand. Sir Edward Henry Lee (1663-1716) succeeded his Father as the 5th Baronet in 1667. In 1674, at the age of 10 he was made 1st Earl of Lichfield (second creation) on his engagement to Charlotte Fitzroy, an illegitimate daughter of King Charles II. This inscription is presumably dated sometime between 1670 and 1674.

Atlases.- Kitchin (Thomas) Kitchin's General Atlas, Describing the Whole Universe, title, with 18 maps only (of 40), lacking the maps of America and the World, with only one part (of two) of Ireland, but includes the two part map of 'The East Indies' showing the entirety of India by Thomas Jefferys, engravings on various papers, various sizes, all on stubs, a few loose, some folds with splitting, a few with even toning, scattered surface dirt, handling creases and minor nicks, later marbled boards, very worn with spine splitting, folio, Laurie & Whittle, 1804.

Holy Land.- Palestine.- Bonfils (Felix & Adrien) Palestine - Greece 1897, 62 mounted photographs, most c.215 x 281 mm (8 1/2 x 11 1/4 in.), 24 signed Bonfils in negative, 2 signed Adrien Bonfils in negative, one with notes in manuscript to verso, scattered faint spotting to mounts, including views of Egypt, Greece, Pompeii, Amalfi, Naples, Jaffa, Ramleh, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea and the Church of Nativity, original half-morocco album, gilt, g.e., a little rubbed, oblong folio, c.1897.⁂ Félix Bonfils, his wife Lydie, and son Adrien were famous French photographers in Beirut during the second half of the nineteenth century. The family moved to Beirut in 1867 where they opened a photographic studio called Maison Bonfils.

REVILLE, APPOINTED COURT DRESSMAKERS TO QUEEN MARY: A FOLIO OF 1930'S COUTURE DESIGNS including newspaper cuttings, one of Princess Chichibu of Japan, selecting her Coronation robes. The collection includes designs of a Royal robe. Two of the designs have "Reville copyright design Hanover Square, London" seals, all designs are by Bettie Richardson, in various sizes, (70) BETTIE BENSON RICHARDSON 1914-1998Bettie was a boarder at The Institute Notre-Dame de Boulogne-Sur-Mer on the edge of Paris.She then studied at The House of Reville in London, producing many designs, including coronation robe designs for Princess Chichibu of Japan during her state visit to England. Photographs of the Empress wearing some of Betties designs were shown in the national press during a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
