An album of 102 double-page col. litho. political cartoons from St Stephen's Review, 29th October 1887 to 2nd November 1889, all partially pasted in and mounted back-to back throughout, accompanying text often pasted to print versos, two double-size prints (Houses of Commons and Lords), some occ. minor spotting and a few centrefold splits but overall very good condition, contemp. half morocco, broken and spine deficient, folio. * Arlington (Earl of, 1618-85). Document signed 'Arlingon', 11th July 1671, to Sir John Robinson, His Majesty's Lieutenant at the Tower of London, informing Robinson that, by the King's particular command, he is authorised to 'discharge and lett at Liberty a person of yr. Lord Windsor now present in yr. custody', with integral blank, two small worm holes, one touching one letter, folio. Lord Windsor had challenged Lord Berkeley of Streatham, the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, at Kidderminster on his way to London in June 1671, Berkeley declined the challenge and informed the King, who sent Windsor to the Tower. As this document shows, Windsor was released after a fortnight and immediately visited the King whose hand he kissed. (1)

An Act to Prevent the Return of Such Rebels and Traitors Concerned in the Late Rebellion, as have been, or shall be Pardoned on Condition of Transportation; and also to hinder their going into the Enemies Country, 18th November 1746, pub. 1747, title and 4pp, printed black letter Act of Parliament, disbound, folio A key Act made in the aftermath of the 1745 Rebellion. Many of 'Bonny' Prince Charlie's followers were transported to the American colonies and used as slave labour in the plantations. This Act effectively prevented them from returning from America and thereby helped swell the numbers of anti-British factions which led to the War of Independence thirty years later. (1)

An account book relating to the William Dowdswell's family seat at Pull Court, Bushley, Worcestershire, 1774-1793, 112pp. of neatly written accounts (approx. 30 entries per page), numerous blank leaves, contemp. reversed calf, slightly worn to extrems., folio William Dowdeswell (1721-1775) politician, Channcellor of the Exchequer. The accounts were commenced shortly before his death under the administration of his wife and continued by her until 1794. The entries are for expenditure and income being kept in running total. The majority of the entries are for running the estate which included rentals received and travel expenses etc. (1)

The first small folio edition of King James' version, the earliest to receive any considerable revision. A good complete copy. (1)

An unusual provincially published bible, printed by the Southampton printer Thomas Skelton (who also published Netley Abbey, 1795, The Southampton Guide, 1797 and 1802/3, etc.). The illustrations were engraved specifically for this edition by a Southampton engraver Thomas Scott Seed. (2)
