JOHN STOWE "The English Chronicles" published 1564 brown leather bound book CONDITION REPORTS Appears to have been re-bound, pages and spine loose and semi-detached in many places, pages have staining, discolouration, impressed stamps, various tears and losses, and various inscriptions to majority of the pages, leather boards and spine with various wear, discolouration, some tears and losses. The style of the numbering varies from page to page, and it is not known whether or not the book is complete. First blank page has impressed stamp and is mostly detached, front cover is mostly detached, back cover is partially detached, pages themselves appear fairly secure. There are five pages at the front of the book which are printed in black and red, followed by a page which starts "To the Right Ho.", this section comprises four pages followed by the page which is marked top right "Folio I", various subsequent pages have a mixture of "Folio" , "Fol." and "Fo." prefixing the number and some pages have simply a number either top right or above the text to the top, the last page in the book is marked top right "Fo. 246,", and the other side of this last page in the book has at the top "Queene Elizabeth", the back plain page also bears an impressed stamp inscribed "Cleopatra Needle Works". Some of the pages appear to be out of order e.g. "Fo. 90" is followed by "Fo. 82", and later there is a page numbered just "89" followed by a page numbered just "90", and later on still there occurs another page numbered "Fol. 90". Please note it is not known whether book is complete or not. Page 159 (just the number 159 on its own) is followed by page 162 (just the number 162 on its own). Page 242 (Fo.242,) is followed by page 243 (Fo.243,). Page "Fol.242, " is followed by page "Fo.242" (ie same page number, but which bears different text). The last page in the book is "Fo.246,", the back of this page ends "so endeth the Chronicles. 1564"

A remarkably fine depiction of the steam yacht Banshee, with splendid exterior and interior views. Commissioned by millionaire Col. Harry MacCalmont to replace his Giralda which he ran between 1894-98, Banshee, built by Ramage & Ferguson in 1901, was a steel twin-screw schooner. Almost naval in appearance, she measured 229½ft, with a 29½ft beam and registered at 993 tons. After his untimely death in 1905, Banshee was sold to Portugal and became the R.Y. Amelia until the assassination of King Carlos in 1908. Thereafter she was used as a dispatch vessel in the Portuguese Navy and was dropped from Jane's list in 1937. MacCalmont built a third steam yacht, the nine-screwed Tarantula, which he owned concurrently with Banshee and which can be seen in the next lot.
