Very light foxing on the endpapers, also on the tissue guard of the title page.This is a very good copy. The text includes Avery good and extensive introduction by Sitwell, the Bibliography, a list of species and a comprehensive Index. This edition was made and designed for William Collins, 14 St. James’s Place, London, and D. Van Norstrand Company, Inc., New York, by George Rainbird and Ruari McLean at 8 Whyndham Place, London, W.1.The plates were printed in 8-colour photo-litho-offset and collotype monochrome by Van Leer of Amsterdam. The colour plates are extremely beautiful. The text pages were set in Monotype Bembo and printed by the Chiswick Press of London.The binding was executed by Mansell of London. 295 numbered copies were printed on Pannekoek mould made paper and 2000 copies on Van Gelder mill paper. Top edges gilt and tittle page in black and red.This exquisite Golden Cockerel special needs no further description since it has come to enjoy almost legendary status. Major historical Act from the Civil War English Civil War An Act for Renouncing and disannulling the Pretended Title of Charles Stuart &c^ at the Parliament begun at Westminster the 17th Day of September Anno Domini 1656. Folio 8pp disbound^ in good condition. The remarkable Act of Oliver CromwellÂ’s Parliament which abolished any claim to the Throne by the exiled Charles II. Charles was to remain in exile until the Restoration in 1660.

Fine 18th c calligraphic manuscript Joseph II Holy Roman Emperor – calligraphic manuscript written out on approx 16pp large folio^ illuminated in red^ blue and gold and bearing a particularly fine illustration of his coat of arms. Dated 1787and signed by Johan Quesman^ calligrapher of Utrecht. Original brown paper covered boards. The manuscript lists Joseph’s titles and his family history. Written in French.

Military Wellington and Waterloo a particularly fine ms document being the Abstract of Pay dated Head Quarters October 24th 1817 listing pay due to the Duke of Wellington and his officers from August to October (totalling just under £7^500). Listed are the major names who fought at Waterloo^ including Wellington himself^ Lord Hill^ Lord Edward Somerset^ Sir Noel Hill^ Lord Charles Fitzroy^ and Sir Colin Campbell. The document is in fine condition^ written in a very neat hand on 8pp folio^ and signed by Sir George Murray at the end. A most revealing and informative document on the pay structure of the British Army in the aftermath of Waterloo. Wellington was paid just over £1^170 for the period^ while Lord Hill received just over £430.
