Fischer, und Stuttgart, Müller & Schindler 1982. Mit zahlreichen vergoldeten und farbigen Illustrationen, Miniaturen und Initialen. Hellgrauer Originallederband in -seideneinbanddecke mit vergoldeten Beschlägen und montiertem Prunkdeckel sowie Originalhalbpergamentband.Eins von 250 Exemplaren der Vorzugsausgabe für den Coron-Verlag mit dem vergoldeten Prunkvorderdeckel mit Elfenbeinrelief, Ornamentbändern aus Emailplättchen und Halbedel- und Schmucksteinen in Fassungen aus Goldfiligran sowie Perlenreihen in den Eckdiagonalen. Die seidenbezogene Rückseite ist durch fünf vergoldete Beschläge gegliedert. - Das Mitte des elften Jahrhunderts entstandene Original verblieb bis zur Französischen Revolution in Echternach. Als die Abtei 1795/1796 geschlossen wurde, gelangte der Codex über Mainz nach Erfurt, wo er 1801 von Herzog Ernst II. von Sachsen-Coburg und Altenburg erworben wurde. 1955 verkaufte das Haus Coburg-Gotha die Handschrift aus finanziellen Gründen. Der »Codex Aureus Epternacensis« nimmt unter den Prunkhandschriften des Museums wegen seiner Größe und Schönheit, besonders aber wegen der verschwenderischen Vergoldung nahezu aller Seiten, eine Sonderstellung ein. WW2 heroes signed RAF Jubilee Ltd Edition Eric Kennington Portrait Prints. Rare WW2 signed prints The RAF Jubilee Limited Edition. This portfolio of prints was produced in 1979 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. It consists of four high quality prints taken from paintings by artist Eric Kennington, which he painted in 1940 of famous WWII airmen. Each one measures 14" x 10" and they are personally autographed by the airmen in question: Douglas Bader, James "Ginger" Lacey, John Cunningham and Rod Learoyd VC. They come supplied in a gold printed presentation folio, complete with RAF ribbon, and Certificate of authenticity signed by AM Sir Denis Crowley-Milling on behalf of the RAF Benevolent Fund. The Lacey print has tiny crease to top and small tear. Good condition Est.

T.E. Lawrence & the Arab Revolt.- Green (Wilfrith Gerald Key, compiler, commander 10th Cavalry Brigade, 1872-1937) History of the 10th Cavalry Brigade Operations - September and October, 1918 and subsequent moves, up to its arrival at Beirut, duplicated typescript, 46pp., 2 sketch maps, all ff. loose, first f. corner torn not affecting text, browned, slightly creased, some pencil marks in margins, folio, 1918.⁂ "An Arab Force under Colonel Lawrence believed to be operating N[orth] and E[ast] of the 4th Cav. Div." - Green's Report.An unpublished eye witness account of the British Army's campaign in Palestine and Syria with several references to T.E. Lawrence. The report describes several key military actions of the Syrian campaign and includes atrocities carried out by Lawrence's Arab Force which Lawrence himself admitted to in both Seven Pillars of Wisdom and in his famous letter to his brother. The report includes: the capture of Beisan, "One of the German Officer prisoners gave a harrowing account of the appalling state of demoralisation of the Turkish columns on the retreat from Nablus. Our bombing planes had given them no peace day or night." The attack on Deraa, "Lawrence's Arab Force is in area and will co-operate with us." Deraa being the sc ene of Lawrence's much debated rape. On 28th September Green reports that he "met Colonel Lawrence with some of his Arab Irregulars." He claims that "the cruelty exhibited by irresponsible Arabs to the miserable vanquished Turks was abominable in the extreme." Outside Damascus 5000 Turkish troops were taken prisoner by the Australian Mounted Division.

Aesop. Aesop's Fables with his Life: in English, French and Latin, additional engraved title, engraved arms of the dedicatee, William Cavendish, Earl of Devonshire, frontispiece and 31 plates by Thomas Dudley, including the 'indecent' plate 17 with small ink doodles near the offending part but not obscuring it, 110 engraved illustrations by Francis Barlow, occasional short tears but generally a fine, clean and crisp copy, bookplate of Sir William Eden, Bart., early 19th century russia, ruled in gilt and blind, sympathetically rebacked, [Wing A703], folio, by H. Hills jun. for Francis Barlow, 1687.⁂ A very good copy of Barlow's famous edition, his masterful illustrations enhancing the verses of Aphra Behn.Sir William Morton Eden, 7th Baronet of West Auckland and 5th Baronet of Maryland, of Windlestone Hall, County Durham, was father of Prime Minister Anthony Eden, later Earl of Avon. He was an eccentric and irascible man, a brilliant huntsman, talented watercolourist, and early collector of impressionist pictures. In the words of his son Sir Timothy: '...he was induced neither by poverty nor obscurity of birth, nor by timidity - for he was physically and morally fearless - nor by the slightest vestige of self-discipline, to restrain the exuberance of his feelings. Nature had showered upon him with an uncontrolled hand her gifts and her curses alike, and without control he received them all, and without control he expended them.' He had a celebrated legal dispute with Whistler over a portrait he had commissioned of Lady Eden. Fludd (Robert) Mosaicall Philosophy: Grounded upon the Essentiall Truth or Eternal Sapience, 2 parts in 1, first English edition, titles with woodcut printer's device, woodcut illustrations, head-pieces and decorative initials, lacking A1 (blank), previous owner's ink signatures to title, faint abrasion where ink-stamp removed and small loss to top corner, occasional ink underlining, small loss to fore-edge of N1 and bottom edge of 2P1, small paper label to front pastedown, abrasion mark to front pastedown where label removed, occasional faint spotting, light browning as usual, contemporary calf, a little rubbed, bumping and small loss to spine extremities, [Wing F1391], small folio, for Humphrey Moseley, 1659.⁂ The greatest occult mind of the English Renaissance, Fludd was the premier representative of the Rosicrucian philosophy in England, deeply versed in both Neoplatonic and Kabbalistic thought. He was a Paracelsian physician of considerable prominence in London circles, and he is thought to have influenced William Harvey's conception of the heart and blood. A devout Christian, Fludd deemed himself a "Mosaicall Philosopher' insofar as his thinking was grounded in the spiritual and physical principles divinely revealed to Moses. As with most of Fludd's works, the Mosaicall Philosophy combines both scientific and occult thought; and Fludd here details his experiments with th weather-glass and the magnetic lodestone to demonstrate the divine spiritual principles at work in nature. Even today, the Mosaicall Philosophy is the only major work of Fludd to have been translated into English. Rare and important.

Music.- Keller (Gottfried) A Compleat Method for attaining to play a Thorough Bass upon either Organ, Harpsicord or Theorbo-Lute, first edition, title in red and black, 15 engraved musical plates, mostly browned with some foxing, soiling, and light water-staining, corners mostly creased, original drab wrappers, stitched as issued, covers a bit worn and stained, folio, for John Cullen, 1707. ⁂ Rare; ESTC (T122112) lists only 4 copies. Keller was a German musician and composer who spent at least a decade in England. In this treatise he was "resolv'd generously to make easie" the rules of composition. Published posthumously, it was the second work printed in England on musical theory, the first being Matthew Locke's, Melothesia.

Thucydides. For this new edition Estienne has corrected the Greek text and scholia, as well as further revised Valla's Latin translation, which is now printed on the same page with the Greek text in parallel columns, while the Greek scholia are printed at the foot of the page.' The work explores the themes and meanings of the Song of Songs, and was continuing an unfinished work by Bernard of Clairvaux. Later John of Ford would complete it. Orationes infrascriptorum rhetorum, vol.2 only (of 3), collation: aaa-iii8 kkk10, title with woodcut printer's device, initial spaces with guide-letters, library stamp to verso of title, title and final verso lightly soiled, some marginal water-staining, occasional spotting and marking, 20th century morocco-backed boards, folio (311 x 190mm.), [Venice], [Aldus Manutius & Andrea Torresani], [April, 1513]. ⁂ 'Ce précieux recueil est une des productions les plus importantes de l'imprimerie d'Alde.' (Renouard). It gave us editiones principes of the Attic orators. Provenance: 'H.W. Moule, Sept. 1925, from A.C.M. I had it bound soon after at Cambridge' (ink inscription to front free endpaper). Kelmscott Press.- Morris (William) The Story of Sigurd the Volsung and the Fall of the Niblungs, one of 160 copies on Apple paper, printed in red and black with text in Chaucer type and titles in Troy type, wood-engraved frontispiece and illustration by Edward Burne-Jones and borders & initials by Morris, original limp vellum with silk ties, yapp edges, spine titled in gilt, uncut, spine slightly soiled, very occasional rubbing, lacking one tie, [Peterson A50], large 4to, Kelmscott Press, 1898.⁂ First published in 1877, Morris requested Burne-Jones to illustrate this edition for the press (with approximately twenty-five illustrations in a folio edition similar to the Chaucer) but he did not enjoy the commission and was slow to produce any designs. Following Morris's death the project was revised to a 4to publication and Burne-Jones was persuaded to submit two illustrations. "The two borders used in this book were almost the last that Mr Morris designed. They were intended for an edition of The Hill of Venus...The foliage was suggested by the ornament in two Psalters of the last half of the thirteenth century in the library at Kelmscott House. The initial A at the beginning of the 3rd book was...for the Froissart, and does not appear elsewhere." Cockerell's Annotated List.

Aristotle & Domestic economy.- Lefèvre d'Étaples (Jacques) In Politica Aristotelis introductio [and] Xenophon. Economicus, collation: a b8, Roman type, initial spaces with guide-letters, small repair to final lower blank corner, some mostly marginal staining, occasional spotting, lightly browned, antique style limp vellum, folio (286 x 212mm.), [Paris], Henri Estienne, 1508.⁂ Rare first edition of Lefèvre's pioneering introduction to Aristotle's Politics, along with his edition of Xenophon's Economics, translated by Raffaele Maffei. The latter is a dialogue between Socrates and Isomachus on the management of the house and farm, with 'a pleasant and quaint picture of the Greek wife and her household duties' (Schreiber 24, second edition of 1516).

Kieffer (René, binder).- Louys (Pierre) Aphrodite. Moeurs Antiques, one of only 4 copies, printed on Arches water-marked "Aphrodite" and "H.C. de St.Chamant", preface signed by the author, with 43 original watercolours by Edmond Malassis (11 full-page and 32 chapter-headings), all signed and dated 1911 or 1912, with 5 original watercolour circular part titles of flowers and butterflies by Adolphe Giraldon, title, plates and text all within hand-coloured decorative printed frame designed by Giraldon, with original watercolour design for binding by Giraldon bound in at end (heightened with gold and signed & dated 1912 by him at foot), one or two very light marks or stains to margins, magnificent dark blue morocco mosaic binding, designed by Giraldon and executed by René Kieffer incorporating enamel by Paul Grandhomme, upper cover inlaid with pale blue, lilac, cream, fawn and tan morocco flowers, strings of beads and swirling ribbons around a square floral frame containing an inset metal-framed polychrome enamel portrait of Aphrodite's head by Grandhomme at centre, the whole within a tan morocco twisted rope border with flowers at corners and intervals, lower cover the same but with circular medallion of snake and goblet in blue and brown morocco against a gold ground in place of enamel, spine titled in gilt and with similar inlaid decoration of flowers, signed by Giraldon, Kieffer and Grandhomme at foot of front turn-in, beige silk flyleaves with hand-painted floral frames in watercolour, marbled endpapers, g.e., book-labels of A.Blazot and Michel Wittock, preserved in original ivory silk-lined shagreen leather box with metal clasps (one detached but loosely inserted), box rubbed, folio (binding c.345 x 230mm.), 1910.⁂ Spectacular work executed for the collaborators of the collector Henri Couderc de Saint-Chamant printed from his own unique copy (with watercolours by Bourgonnier), and in a splendid binding commissioned by Auguste Blaizot.
