A George III mahogany writing cabinet on stand, the moulded cornice above two panelled cupboard doors, enclosing an arrangement of twenty four pigeon holes around a fall front secretaire, enclosing six drawers flanked by folio compartments, the stand with square chamfered legs and shaped undertier; the secretaire contains a brass plaque inscribed "This cabinet was presented to John Gibson Junior Esq WS by Sir Walter Scott Bart, Abbotsford", and framing the letter from Scott gifting the cabinet to Gibson, dated 1826, 123cm wide, 190cm high, 48cm deep.
