A Scottish George III patented musical score games box by Ann Young, Edinburgh, circa 1801, the box of ebony and satinwood crossbanding with side drawers, fitted with ivory and turned hardwood counters and dice, 19.25ins x 10.5ins x 4.5ins high Note Ann Young was awarded the patent for this games box in 1801 and was the first British patent awarded for an educational game designed to instruct. The six games which it was designed were to be "amusing and interesting" and also to teach "the fundamental principles of the signs of music"
