EDUARDO SANCHÉZ SOLÁ (Madrid, 1869 - Granada, 1949)."Valencianas".Oil on canvas.Signed in the lower right corner. With label on the back of the Multitudes Gallery.Measurements: 59 x 39 cm; 80 x 59 cm (frame). In this canvas Sánchez Solá offers us a scene of popular and feminine theme, very decorative and full of anecdotic details. However, what stands out most is the luminist heritage, not so much in the execution, which is tighter and more precise than the Impressionist one, but in the luminous sensibility, which is also reflected in the clear, bright colours.Sánchez Solá trained at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where his teachers were Alejandro Ferrant and Luis Taberner. He later taught at the School of Arts and Crafts in Granada, and was a contributor to the art magazine "La Ilustración Española y Americana". He participated assiduously in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, being awarded an honourable mention in 1895; a third class medal in 1897 for the canvas "Tristes noticias" and in 1899 for "El destete"; a decoration in 1901 and an honourable mention in Decorative Art in 1904. He also exhibited at the Regional Exhibition of Modern Art in Granada, at the one at the Centro Artístico in 1942 and at the one in Linares in 1943. Sánchez Solá specialised in oil paintings in which he depicted scenes of altar boys playing games in Andalusian churches of the time. In them, the artist was able to capture the expressiveness and movement of the children, who generally appear concentrated in a game. He is therefore known as "the painter of altar boys", and works such as "Short and Tight", "Do what you like", "Mischief", etc. are still preserved from this genre. He was also known as a painter of portraits and landscapes. Sánchez Solá is currently represented in the Museo del Prado and the Museo Provincial de Lugo, as well as in various private collections.

SALVATORE FRANGIAMORE (Sicily, 1853-Rome, 1915)."The Presentation", Rome, 1897.Oil on canvas.Signed, dated and located in the lower right corner.Size: 56 x 85 cm; 80 x 110 cm (frame).Salvatore Frangiamore presents us with a virtuoso scene contextualised in a palatial interior decorated, mainly, by a stone fireplace of Renaissance style, a rich war tapestry on the wall and a curtain that acts as a backdrop. Next to a table dressed with food, several figures are placed around a prelate, with a lady presenting her daughter to this distinguished personage, under the attentive gaze of the rest of the spectators. The work is notable for its detail and for the magnificent depiction of the richly embroidered and delicately woven costumes.Born into a family of modest means, Salvatore Frangiamore showed a marked aptitude for drawing at an early age, thus attracting the curiosity of many people in his native country, in particular that of the then mayor Giuseppe Giudici, a future member of the Kingdom's Parliament and brother of the well-known scholar Paolo Emiliani Giudici. In 1883 he took part in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Rome, the inaugural exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, exhibiting "A Summer Storm". Among his most successful works were his portraits (in addition to those of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita, we remember those of the Honourable Giuseppe Giudici, of Paolo Emiliani Giudici, of Baroness Costanza Moncada Mistretta, the barons Vincenzo and Salvatore Mistretta, the gentleman Vincenzo Sorce Malaspina, his sister Luigina (pencil drawing), the ministers Michele Amari and Nicolò Gallo, Professor Francesco Durante. He also excelled as a genre painter of paintings set in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, with works such as "Lucia and the Unnamed", "The Chess Game" and "The Cardinal's Visit". He is currently represented in the National Gallery in London, as well as in numerous private collections throughout Europe.

Tejo RemyUnique wall-mounted shelving unit, designed for a private commission, Rotterdam, 1995Patinated steel.194 x 150 x 27.5 cmFrom the series of seven.Footnotes:ProvenancePrivate collection, Rotterdam, 1995Tejo RemyNick WrightCo-author of Cut and Shut: The History of Creative Salvage, London, 2012In 1995, the Dutch designer Tejo Remy designed these wall-mounted shelving units for the home of the 010 publisher Peter De Winter, which was an impressive, converted reservoir tower. Its restricted access and intimate rooms, thus determined the scale of these seven unique commissioned works. The idea or 'the game' as Remy once put it was, 'what you cut out has to be used again so that there was no material lost'. The idea was prototyped in a workstation called 'Hideaway' shown in the 1994 exhibition of his work at Gallery Oriel curated by Ralph Turner and is consistent with his early designs, which first drew international attention, including his works the 'Rags Chair' and the chest of drawers titled, 'You Can't Lay Down Your Memories'. Both Tom Dixon, who Remy encountered during an internship with Danny Lane, and Remy have stated that their respective work is not primarily driven by environmental concerns. Nonetheless, as climate change impinges, designers who reworked waste material such as Dixon and Remy are seen as having been, intentionally or not, in the vanguard of sustainable design. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: AR TPAR Goods subject to Artists Resale Right Additional Premium.TP Lot will be moved to an offsite storage location (Cadogan Tate, Auction House Services, 241 Acton Lane, London NW10 7NP, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue.
