Walter Battiss: I Invented Myself, The Ampersand Foundation, Johannesburg, p. 137 sheet size: 43 by 59cm Marabaraba is a traditional South African board game, originally popular amongst shepherds, that is now played around the world. In this work Battiss recreates the board that the player’s pieces (often called ‘cows’) travel around, but has added vibrant colours and geometric patterning.
