Speedy Graphito is one of the pioneering French street artists of the early 1980s. Similar to other street artists, he is inspired by Pop Art and the consumerist culture of Western society. Through his work, Speedy Graphito satirizes our addiction with mass consumption and popular culture, as can be seen in this work where he has re-appropriated the iconic computer game character Mario from Nintendo`s Mario Brothers. There is currently a documentary in post-production about the street artist`s life and work, which is set to debut in December 2011.
