DAME DE CŒUR "Reuerance a la rene". Gravure sur bois sur papier, dos : vierge (taché). couleurs au pochoir : rouge (vermillon) épais, vert d`eau, brun, traces de jaune. Inscription (en textura gothique) sur le côté gauche : Reuerance a la rene. Lyon (?), premières décennies du XVIe siècle (?) (État : très bon, dos taché). 101 x 70 mm Cette ravissante dame de cœur, assise sur une cathèdre très ouvragée et tenant un sceptre, est d`une exécution comparable à celle du roi de carreau (n° 1a) mais ne peut faire partie du même jeu. On connaît d`autres cartes présentant des figures assises sur des trônes et pourvues d`inscriptions semblables. Ainsi, il y a au Musée historique de Lyon (Musée Gadagne) des feuilles non découpées et non coloriées, attribuées au cartier Jacques Vise, offrant quatre dames légendées "Reuerance a la reyne" et quatre rois affichant "Honneur au roy" (cf. J.-P. Seguin, Le jeu de cartes, Paris, 1968, p. 50-51). Notre dame de cœur ne déparerait pas cette jolie galerie, mais elle n`est identique à aucune des dames du musée de Lyon. L`inscription s`explique en référence au jeu de glic, une sorte de brelan du XVe et du XVIe siècle où une séquence à la dame était annoncée en criant "Révérence à la reine !" et une séquence au roi par "Honneur au roi !" (cf. T. Depaulis, "Pochspiel : an international card game of the 15th century. Part III [le glic en France]", The Playing-Card, vol. XIX, n° 4, mai 1991, p. 109-117). La netteté et la sécheresse des traits, les maladresses du dessin de la cathèdre contrastant avec la délicatesse du visage, l`énorme chausson visible en bas à gauche et l`aspect des couleurs font cependant hésiter sur l`authenticité de cette carte. L`hypothèse d`une très habile "reconstitution" moderne, destinée à compléter un jeu ancien à figures assises aujourd`hui perdu, ne peut être écartée ; mais alors, il faut admettre que l`artisan a pris soin d`imprimer cette dame de cœur en xylographie, avec de l`encre "vieillie", sur un papier à l`ancienne et qu`il l`a colorée avec des pigments traditionnels, appliqués à la brosse à l`aide de pochoirs. En effet, les analyses de laboratoire confirment que papier et couleurs ont une composition semblable à ceux des cartes des nos 1 et 2. Cette carte était présentée, avec les lots 1 et 2, dans un cadre au dos duquel se lisait une étiquette manuscrite collée : "Cartes à Jouer/Trouvées au château de Blois, dans un placage à l`intérieur de la niche au-dessus de la porte d`entrée du Bâtiment de Louis XII, par le Capitaine du Génie Douet, en 1839".
