PLANET OF THE APESOne Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- Folded 20th Century Fox, 1968Archival tape has repaired two small tears at the bottom of the poster. This seminal science fiction adventure features game-changing prosthetic makeup, engaging satire, and a killer twist ending. The plot follows Charlton Heston's astronaut character, Taylor, as he is thrown into a crazy, upside-down world where talking apes rule over dumb humans. This film launched a five-picture series that ran until 1973 before being rejuvenated in 2011 with the prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its sequels. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.

Lot 1

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEYOne Sheet (27" x 41"); Wilding PosterFine+ on Paper; Artwork by Mike Kaplan MGM , 1969This poster for the Kubrick sci-fi classic was distributed to reboot the campaign after a year of distribution. These posters were intended to be wilded or posted on street corners to attract attention and are generally considered far rarer than the earlier Robert McCall posters. The original printing of the "Eye" and "Star Child" posters have no NSS or other information in the bottom border, as they were created in rush time, not knowing if the campaign would take. Minor horizontal fold wear touch-up and slight sun fading. Stanley Kubrick's sublime sci-fi masterpiece elevated the genre from a B-movie staple previously typified by flying saucers and monsters. Dealing with deep philosophical concepts (not least the impact of artificial intelligence on human evolution) and changing the game for visual effects (under the supervision of FX master Douglas Trumbull), it remains an unforgettable cinematic experience. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.

Lot 218

PLANET OF THE APESJapanese STB (20" x 58")Very Fine- on Linen 20th Century Fox, 1968This is a very rare format for this science fiction classic. This is the Japanese Tataken or STB (two panel). This poster shows some slight wear to the upper and lower borders. The bottom border has some airbrush work to diminish handling wear. The center point where the two panels join has had some touch-up work, as have a few spots within the main title. This seminal science fiction adventure features game-changing prosthetic makeup, engaging satire, and a killer twist ending. The plot follows Charlton Heston's astronaut character, Taylor, as he is thrown into a crazy, upside-down world where talking apes rule over dumb humans. Lot 299

TRON(2) Japanese B2 (20" x 29")Very Fine Rolled Buena Vista, 1982This wonderful lot features the two styles used in Japan for the ground-breaking film. These colorful Japanese B2s put brightness and bravery on display. One in the form of the defiant character of Tron dead center, showing off the film's impressive visual savvy. These stunning rolled Japanese posters offered here feature a great portrait of Jeff Bridges in the form of the defiant character of Tron, and the other immersing us in the video game battle. The English style has pinholes in the top two corners and some small scuffs in the character's right arm. All are supported with tape on the verso. With border wear as well. The cast style has pinholes in the upper corners. When Steven Lisberger first saw the video game Pong, he was inspired to write a story that took place entirely within the software world of a mainframe computer. This story would eventually become the movie Tron (1982). One of the first films to use computer animation and graphics extensively, Tron quickly became a landmark in filmmaking technology. Starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and David Warner, the film received mixed-to-positive reviews on its initial release but has become a cult classic in the years since, spawning a sequel (Tron: Legacy) and a TV series (Tron: Uprising). This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.
