The Criminal Code..., 7 volumes printed 'by direction of the Right Honourable Robert Peel, Secretary of State for the Home Department, as the Basis of the Consolidation and Amendment of the Criminal Law', comprising; Coining, 1825; Burglary, Housebreaking, and Churchrobbing, 1826; Forgery, 1826; Game Laws, 1828; Simple Larceny, Robbery, Stolen Goods, Fraud, Mischief, Restitution, and Compensation, 2 volumes bound in 3, 1828; all with spotting, contemporary half calf, worn, folio, London: George Eyre and Andrew Strahan (7) RARE. During his time as Home Secretary, Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850) introduced a number of important reforms. Those to criminal law included the establishing of a Metropolitan Police Force and what became known as the 'Peel Acts' that were passed between 1827 and 1832. These Acts involved a simplification of existing statues and were the product of this earlier failed proposal to codify the criminal law.
