The FIFA 1970 World Cup winner`s medal awarded to Brazil`s Everaldo Marques da Silva, in .750 continental gold, signed Peka, the obverse inscribed F.I.F.A., the reverse inscribed CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE FUTBOL, COPA JULES RIMET, MEXICO, 1970. In winning the Jules Rimet Trophy for the third time the Brazilian team of 1970 made history in doing so and produced some of the most breathtaking football ever seem. Arguably `the team of the century,` Marion Zagalo`s Brazilians defeated Italy 4-1 in the World Cup final played at the Azteca Stadium, Mexico City, on 21st June 1970. Everaldo Marques de Silva, squad number 16, played in every Brazil game during the tournament with the exception of the quarter-final v Peru. Known simply as Everaldo, the left-sided defender was born 11th September 1944 in Porto Alegre and played his club football for Gremio. The golden star in Gremio`s club flag was added in 1970 in homage of his part in the World Cup victory. Everaldo won a total of 29 international caps between 1967 and 1972 and appeared on a losing Brazilian side on just one occasion during his career in October 1968. Other career honours included the award of the Brazilian Silver Ball in 1970, winner of the Roca Cup with Brazil in 1967, winner of the Campeonato Gaucho in 1964, 1966, 1967 & 1968 with Gremio and winner of the Rio Branco Cup in 1967 also with Gremio. Tragically the Brazilian World Cup winner died young, through fatal injuries sustained in a car crash driving his Dodge Dart near Santa Cruz do Sul on 28th October 1974. He was still playing professional football for Gremio at this time. This auction offers a rare opportunity of acquiring a World Cup winner`s medal associated with the `Beautiful Team` of 1970 and is sold with various papers of provenance.
A bound volume of Millwall programmes from the first season at The Den in 1910-11, comprising a full set of 19 first-team Southern League fixtures, a London Professional Challenge Cup v Woolwich Arsenal, Southern League v Scottish League, London Charity Competition v Crystal Palace, a full international England v Wales 13th March 1911 (line-ups including Pennington, Wedlock, Woodward, Meredith etc.), a friendly v West Ham United and 3 Kent League reserves fixture, all programmes with covers preserved, dark blue cloth covered boards. In the first programme in the volume, being the opening game of the season v New Brompton on 3rd September 1910, the editor`s notes includes an apology to supporters for the fact that the club`s new ground of The Den was not quite ready for the opening match as planned and confirming that the game was to be played at "the old enclosure." Then follows an assurance to supporters that all would be ready at New Cross for the second home fixture against West Ham United on 24th September. The West Ham programme then offers a further apology with the club Directors at pains to point out that they are "in no way responsible for the delay" and that their contractors had been unable to obtain necessary ironwork. The Den finally opened its doors to the public on 22nd October for the Southern League fixture v Brighton. The first programme also introduces itself under the heading "The New Programme", the notes reading "We believe the rank and file of our supporters will appreciate the effort which is being made to publish an attractive Official Programme, a feature carried out by almost every club throughout the Leagues. It is the intention of the Directors to intimate to their supporters through the medium of this publication the whole of the business that is available for publicity. This, the first issue, speaks for itself and generally indicates the contents from week to week. By co-operation with the publishers of other League Club Programmes we hope at different times to present some interesting articles on players past and present, as well as striking portraits of visiting players and officials."

An early surviving reference of football being played in England [Cumberland] in the form of a manuscript ode composed in 1803, an ode of 26 lines hand written in pen & ink and signed by two schoolboys Thomas Caddy and John Steel on August 18th 1803, the ode imploring their schoolmaster "... All holidays and feasts through the year ... likewise a football and a good fat hen against Shirovetide [sic] we claim from you again ..." Research has uncovered a Thomas Caddy, the son of William Caddy, born in 1786, and a John Steel, born in 1787, both in Cumberland. The history of football played on Shrovetide in Great Britain is well documented, and has an extensive account between pages 68 and 153 of "Uppies and Downies, The Extraordinary Football Games of Britain" by Hugh Hornby, published by English Heritage in 2008. The book also illustrates the painting by Alexander Carse of the Shrove Tuesday Match at Jedburgh in 1818. He was one of the first artists to depict football as his subject. A woodcut of "Football, Kingston-upon-Thames, Shrove Tuesday, Feb 24th 1846" by Phillipson is in the FIFA Museum Collection. This exciting manuscript discovery throws further light on the popularity of the sport when in its infancy and 60 years before the laws of the game were unified by the formation of the Football Association. The full 26 line ode reads as follows: Honoured, Master Wonder not Why these come to hand, For the naked truth you soon shall understand, To labour always neither man nor Beast, Is able, we require some rest, According to the old custom we Attempt, To bolt the door and take our merement, To day, also tomorrow we demand, For recreation can you this withstand, Ten days before Christ blest Nativity, With all the feasts until Epiphany, Ten days at Shirovetide ten at Easter just, All Saturdays, and ten at Pentecost, All Holidays & Feasts through the year, We may at Church but not at school appear, Likewise a football and a good fat hen, Against Shirovetide we claim from you again, And further more when we have let you in, Look that against us you comit no sin, Until one month be past give no abuse, For if you do you shall find no excuse, Tryumphantly we will turn you out of Doors, With patience submitting to our powers, And also we hope you will consent, To sign the bill and grant us meriment, In recompense whereof we will not fail, To give you and your friend a glass of Ale Signed by me Thos. Caddy, John Steel, Augt. 18th. 1803 the reverse signed William Caddy, Thomas`s father

Paul Gascoigne`s Newcastle United debut jersey worn in the match v Queen`s Park Rangers 13th April 1985, a short-sleeved black & white striped No.12 substitute`s jersey; sold with a document of authenticity from Newcastle United FC (2) This jersey was originally sold at Christie`s Auctioneers in December 1998. The Christie`s catalogue read as follows: The jersey was given to the vendor by Gordon McKeag, who was chairman of Newcastle United from 1988 to 1990, and a club Director from 1972 to 1991. The shirt relates to Gazza`s debut against Queen`s Park Rangers as a substitute on 13th April 1985.
