A fine quality French double barrelled 14 bore percussion sporting gun, by Le Page, 46½” overall, barrels 30½” gold inlaid with bands of stars and ears of corn at breech, “Canons Damas d’Acier Fin” on top rib, and with arrow and lines at the muzzle, engraved back action locks gold inlaid “Fni.par Lepage” in scrolls, nicely figured walnut halfstock, the fore end carved with panel of scales, the wrist carved with similar panels of scales terminating in a vigorous lion’s head, deeply embossed brass mounts, including Diana the huntress on the trigger guard, head of Mercury and Caduceus on the throat pipe, and on the butt plate lions drinking at a fountain, wolf and hanging game, brass mounted ebony ramrod. TWO BEATERS SMOCKS FROM THE ELVEDON ESTATE IN SUFFOLK, circa 1900. Footnote: Elvedon Estate was owned by the Maharajah Dhuleep Singh from 1863 to 1894 during which time 'The Black Prince' as he was known developed the shooting on the estate to a very high level (the game larder can accommodate 4,500 head of game). Subsequently the estate has been owned by the Guinness family. The multitude of beaters were all dressed in estate livery smocks which were light coloured denim with red/maroon cuffs and collars.

HAWKSLEY GAME COUNTER, to record four species of quarry up to a maximum of thirty of each, the counter for each species made of a different metal or finish, a bronze indicator for partridges, nickel-plated for hares, steel for pheasants and brass for grouse, similarly each face is different, that for pheasant and grouse is nickel plated and brass for hares and partridges.

Beverley.', 27in. damascus barrels (shortened), number '2', action incorporating T. Webley patent sprung rotary underlever (faulty), patent no. 3022 of 7th November 1866, use no. 1033, and Horsley 1867 patent retracting firing pins, the non-rebounding sidelocks with hammers (with cams at the breast, operating a pivoting arm, linked to the firing pins), one hammer spring faulty, best fine scroll engraving with crosshatch borders and some game scenes, 14 1/4in. well-figured stock with heel and toe plates, the heel-plate with elongated back strap, weight 7lb. 13oz.

A MAGNIFICENT PAIR OF MOZAMBICAN ELEPHANT TUSKS, weighing 122lb. and 118lb., measuring 18 1/2in. and 18 1/4in. in circumference and 8ft. 6in. and 8ft. 5in. in height, mounted on an oak plinth (5ft. x 1ft.) with steel gaiters. These remarkably symmetrical tusks are recorded in Rowland Ward's 'Records of Big Game' 24th Ed. as being the 3rd biggest hunted in Mozambique and rank 125th in the world. The tusks are sold with Cites certificates No.275741/01 and 275741/02.

AN INTERESTING FUNKEN-ENGRAVED 'SOUVENIR' FABRIQUE NATIONALE 16-BORE 'AUTO-5' SEMI-AUTOMATIC SHOTGUN, serial no. 4249, 27 1/2in. nitro barrel with raised matt top-rib, 2 3/4in. chamber, bored approx. 3/4 choke, blued action with border engraving, surrounding scenes of setters flushing game in wood and marsh settings, signed 'F. Funken', receiver engraved 'Capt. Mark. M. Lehmkuhl. Souvenir of Liege. Belgium. 1945' in a cartouche, 14 1/2in. figured pistolgrip stock with FN butt-plate, weight 7lb. 10oz. Felix Funken, Master engraver was hired by FN in 1926 to set up an engraving shop when higher specification engraving proved to be a popular choice. He was responsible for the hiring and managing of engravers, running an engraving school as well as engraving guns himself. The 'souvenir' aspect of the gun is likely to refer to the fact that after Belgium was liberated in 1944 and the F.N. factory resumed production, until it began re-supplying Browning (in 1946) its main clientele were to Army personnel.
