A pair of early 20th century Crown Devon ceramic hand painted wall-hanging plates: one decorated with Highland longhorn cattle, signed G. Cox (individually numbered 0783), the other with two gun dogs and flying game birds (individually numbered 0929), signed R. Hinton, printed marks to underside (24.5 cm diameter).* Condition: Both plates are in good condition, with no chips, cracks or significant faults. Both have a few small glaze flaws to the rim from firing, including one burst bubble and there are consequent small flaws to the gilt. The Highland Cattle plate does have some glaze crazing to the both front and reverse sides and the Gun Dogs plate has some glaze crazing to the centre of the front of the plate. The Gun Dogs plate also has a light 1in. scratch to the glaze to the sky above the left hand dog. Both plates have possible surface abrasion to the glaze to the darker areas, mostly to the foreground - however, this may well be a heavy layer of surface dirt which is 'baked on' and very difficult to clean off - it is covering the signature for instance on the Highland Cattle plate, which can be read but is partially concealed.

A remarkable gouache on illustration board painting by prolific American outdoor illustrator, Lynn Bogue Hunt. The painting presents an osprey mid-plunge with its wings outspread and its talons digging into its prey. The solid sky-blue background and abstracted green splashes create emphasis on the subject and its actions. In the lower right corner, the painting is addressed To Otto Scheer with the artist's signature written in pencil. The painting is bordered with a brown matte and is encased in a wood frame with a beige and gold flake painted finish. Lynn Bogue Hunt (American, 1878-1960) was a prolific outdoor illustrator, huntsman, and fisherman. He painted 106 covers for the widely distributed Field and Stream magazine and was a known friend to other famous outdoor enthusiasts such as author Ernest Hemingway. Interestingly, in a forward written by Colonel Theodore Roosevelt in a book titled Our American Game Birds by Van Campen Heilner, it is mentioned that Hunt's color plate works were collected by the infamous du Pont family and were borrowed by Colonel Roosevelt and Heilner for their superb quality for the book's illustrations.
