*A pair of Belgian DB 12 bore x 2½” top lever hammerless sidelock non ejector sporting guns, number 77715, 46” overall, barrels 30”, and number 77727, 44½” overall, barrels 28½”, with matted top ribs and doll’s head extensions, Liege and B’ham nitro proofs, with automatic top safeties, the locks engraved with rural scene of game dogs and rabbits, the frames engraved with simple scrolls and dog’s head, the walnut stocks with chequered fore ends and pistol grips, the barrels with leather covered hand grips. GWO & generally GC, retaining some original finish overall (one stock has been fractured and badly repaired); in their English brass bound leather covered fitted oak case, the lid with panel bearing owner’s name, containing pair of snap caps, cleaning rod and brushes, with carrying handle and leather securing straps. A Third Reich period National Forestry Service assistant forester’s cutlass, by WKC, the blade etched with huntsman, stag, boar, game birds, etc, the gilt hilt with ivorine grip set with acorns (one missing), in its gilt brass mounted leather sheath with adapted leather bayonet frog dated 1940. GC (hilt gilt worn, little remaining on sheath mounts). Plate 3
An Austrian DB 14 bore percussion sporting gun, 45¾” overall, browned twist barrels 30”, the top rib engraved at the breech with initials “E” over “GC” in very small foliate oval; the back action locks engraved with foliate scrolls, game birds feeding, and geese by a lake, with scroll engraved hammers and pivoting safety catches; the nicely figured scroll engraved GS mounts including scrolled trigger guard, with sling swivels and replacement brass tipped ramrod. GWO & C (extremely well executed contemporary repair to stock fracture).
*A DB 12 bore top lever non ejector hammer shotgun, by Gye & Moncrieff, London (1875-87), number 1091, 46½” overall including 1” extension to the butt, rebrowned barrels 30” with traces of name and address on top rib, reproofed for nitro in 1974, the back action locks with rebounding hammers, engraved with scrolls, game dogs, and scrolled borders, and inscribed in cartouche “Constructed for Messrs Gye & Moncrieff, London” (partly obliterated by the tail bolt), the rounded frame and trigger guard engraved with scrolls, game birds and dog with pheasant, the walnut stock with chequered fore end and wrist and vacant gold escutcheon.
