FINE DINING IN DROGHEDA C.1787M.S.S. in ink folio 4 pps. With the names of dishes written-out in diametrical fashion, headed first course/second course and inscribed, “table of 12” - “part of the dinner intended for the *Duke of Rutland, in Drogheda.”The first courses have 11 and 15 dishes of meat, fowl and fish, the second courses have 11 and 15 dishes of jellies, pastry, blamanges etc. but also roast game. 330 x 240 (previously folded); together withDiagram of twenty-two meat dishes to set a table for dinner and removes i.e. turbot and soals/ remove/ fricassee of coxcombs, 18th century, single sided 210 x 155 (previously folded). (2)Charles Manners 4th Duke of Rutland, Lord Lieutenant 1784.He entertained magnificently. He did a tour of the country in 1787 but catching a fever he died in the Vice-Regal Lodge in that year. The caption ‘intended’ implies that this banquet never happened but it demonstrates what was thought suitable for such an occasion even outside the capital.
