George and John Deane percussion double 8 bore shotgun, 32 inch Damascus barrels, fitted with platinum breach plugs, the top flat engraved with a gun dog's head, the named side locks engraved with gun dogs chasing game birds within scrollwork borders, chequered stock stamped with 1792 serial number, with vacant silver escutcheon, steel cap to pistol grip and pineapple finial trigger guard.Section 58(2) Antique /obsolete calibre, can be owned without a license.32 inch barrels.Condition report: The gun has a pleasing patina and the action works correctly. There are a few condition issues the main being the rib between the two barrels which is lifting slightly in two areas. The barrels have been cleaned up as the maker's address is faint. There is fine surface pitting to the metalwork generally. One bore has a patch of pitting (which I doubt will clean out) around midway through the tube, the other bore has no major pits but there is light surface pitting. The wood is generally good but there are some chips to the forend where the edges meet the metal of the barrels.

A Flemish Game Park tapestry, late 16th/early 17th century, possibly Oudenaarde, with an elegant lady and attendant picking flowers in the foreground, before a group of huntsmen with horses and hounds, in an abundant wooded landscape, within elaborate figural borders woven with vignettes of seated women, musicians and putti, surrounded by fruiting and flowering vases and scrolling foliage, later backed, approximately 266cm high, 234cm wideThe present tapestry, with its sprawling verdant grounds and broad, intricate border type, is typical of Flemish tapestry at the turn of the 17th century. For a tapestry depicting a similar hunting scene and border type, dated late 16th century, see Sotheby's London, 21 May 2019, Style: Private Collections, lot 183 (Property from an Important European Private Family, £10,000).Another similar tapestry, also with elegantly attired men and women before a background with equestrian huntsmen, was offered at Sotheby's, 31 October 2007, lot 83 (£12,500).Condition Report: The colours of this tapestry are quite vibrant overall, particularly the darker and lighter greens, reds and blues. The skin tones are a little more faded, resulting in some loss of definition to the features. Though the textile is stable and sturdy overall, and has been further strengthened by later backing, there are some minor areas of tearing including to the lower right border, as well as the usual small nicks commensurate with age and a handful of narrow apertures where the weave and colour joins have loosened over time. There are some areas of stitch and weave repairs to the borders and to the foliate background. The lines separating the scenes within the borders are at a slight angle, possibly the result of an adaptation though most likely due to age and hanging. The later backing has come slightly undone to the lower right corner, though presumably this could be easily addressed.Condition Report Disclaimer

The second edition of Lloyd's work is understood to have been published by Frederick Warne in 1867, the same year as the first edition (by Day), but such copies appear to contain an edition statement on the title-page; our copy has no edition statement and is in a more elaborate binding than usually encountered, which also has the name of the original publisher Day and Son on the spine: this may suggest a remboitage or some kind of prize issue. Seebohm's The Birds of Siberia is a collected edition of his Siberia in Europe (1880) and Siberia in Asia (1882).
