FIRST GAME - SOUTH SHIELDS Fulham home programme v South Shields, 30/8/1919, four page issue but cover is not missing as this season all Fulham programmes were without official covers. This is a historic issue as not only is it the first Fulham programme after the First World War but it is also the first ever League game played by South Shields as a Football League Club. South Shields replaced Glossop in Division 2 and remained members of the Football League until the end of 1929-30 when they resigned due to financial problems. A new team, based South of the Tyne were formed , Gateshead, and they replaced South Shields ( North of the Tyne) in Division 3 North in 1930-31. This programme is in good condition and has a pencil score, (Fulham won 1-0). Very slight fold. Generally good
GATESHEAD Home programme v Darlington, 18/4/1960, Fourth Division and almost the end of their League career for Gateshead who only played three more League games after this game. They were voted out of the League and replaced by Peterborough in 60/61. Strangely "Darlington "was printed as "Darlingtton" on the cover. Generally good
CUP FINALS 120 major cup final programmes. Comprises FA Cup, League Cup, Charity Shield, Major European Finals, World Cup, European Championship, Trophy/Vase, Full Members, Play-offs, FA Youth Cup. Mainly modern but some date back to the 1970`s, some duplication but certainly no more than 2 copies of any one game. Good
FULHAM Seven wartime home programmes, 6 x 42/3 , v Watford, (unusual as game is announced at top as v Watford but teams show Luton as being the visitors, dated 14/11/42), v Reading 12/12/42, v Crystal palace 16/1/43, v Portsmouth 13/2/43 and also 20/3/43, v Aldershot 3/4/43. Other programme is v Leicester 8/9/45. Neat scores, scorers, changes otherwise good. Good
CARDIFF RUGBY LEAGUE 1951 Cardiff home programme v Widnes, 22/8/51, at Penarth Road Stadium, first home game for Cardiff Rugby League Club in their only season in the Rugby League. A crowd of 2,500 saw Cardiff lose the game 27-10 and in this season Cardiff finished 30th of the 31 Clubs with a record of 5 wins and 31 defeats. As a result they were wound up at the end of the season. Previously Cardiff had been members of the Welsh Rugby League which was formed in 1949.Other founder members of the Welsh Rugby League were Amman Valley, Llanelli, Aberavon, Bridgend, Ystradgynlais, Neath and Pontarddulais. Cardiff were champions in 49/50, and Llanelli in 50/51 after which Cardiff were elected to the Rugby Football League. The Welsh Rugby League also folded at the end of the 51-2 season as Union was too strong for League to take a foothold and it was 1981 before Cardiff Blue Dragons were formed to play at Ninian Park. This programme v Widnes is a four page issue with neat score, scorers, attendance, very slight fold. Good
WELSH RUGBY LEAGUE 1950 Four page programme for the Semi-Final of the Welsh Rugby League Challenge Cup, 29/4/50 at Sophia Gardens between Cardiff and Neath. Cardiff won the game 15-11 but were defeated in the Final by Ystradgynlais. Programme has neat score, scorers and attendance (2,500).Very slight ageing. Good
WELSH CUP SEMI-FINALS-NEWPORT Three Welsh Cup Semi-Final programmes all involving Newport County, two at Ninian Park. 21/3/56 v Swansea, 28/3/57 v Swansea and 11/3/64 at Vetch Field v Cardiff. Also enclosed in this Lot is a single sheet Newport County home programme v Barry Town, 28/1/56 Welsh Cup 5th Round (Newport won 8-1 despite not scoring in the final twenty minutes). Three have neat score, scorers etc and minor annotation re the game.
TOTTENHAM RESERVES Eight away game programmes for Spurs Reserves, at Portsmouth 49/50, 50/51 at Southend (Cup), 52/3 and 54/5 at Arsenal, 56/7 at Southend, 64/5 at Chelsea (creased, worn, poor-fair), 66/7 at Leicester (Combination Cup Final) and 67/8 at West Ham (Cup). Some minor faults but usually generally good although a couple are just Fair. As
PLYMOUTH Home programme v Everton, 30/8/1930, Division 2, opening game of Everton promotion season as Champions by Seven points, scoring 121 goals. Programme has a small piece torn from spine, minor creases and some ageing but overall condition is at least "Fair" and probably fair- generally good. As described.
1959 BAYERN MUNICH v MANCHESTER UNITED Friendly played 8 August 1959. Two official Bayern Munich monthly magazines "ClubZeitung FC Bayern Munchen EV" dated August and September 1959. August issue includes team line up and details about the match, September issue includes front cover match action from the game. Good
BILL ASTILL Letter written by William Ewart Astill, Leicestershire Cricketer 1906-1939, Astill made his Test Debut at the age of 39 and was over 50 when he ended his career having scored 22,731 runs and taken 2,431 wickets. The letter is hand-written by Astill to a young lady in Essex in 1929 just prior to a game against Essex at Westcliffe. With original envelope. Good
